3 Surprising George Clooney Quotes About Getting Older

By Margaret Manning March 04, 2016 Mindset

In some ways, getting older is easier for celebrities like George Clooney. With an army of nutritionists, personal trainers and financial advisors following them around, they have the resources to get the most from life after 60.

At the same time, celebrities also have to deal with their age being a public issue. Millions of people watch them grow older on the big screen and not everyone is particularly kind with their comments. So, for better or for worse, celebrities have a unique perspective on aging.

One actor that I have a lot of respect for is George Clooney. Not only is he an amazingly talented entertainer, but, he has always struck me as a genuine person. I don’t always agree with him, but, at least he speaks his mind.

I was curious about what Clooney said about aging, so, I decided to look up some of his most famous quotes. Here are 3 quotes from George Clooney about getting older. I’ve also added a few of my own comments below. Please take a look and join the conversation at the end of the article.

George Clooney Quote About Getting Older #1:

I'm kind of comfortable with getting older because it's better than the other option, which is being dead. So I'll take getting older. - George Clooney

“I’m kind of comfortable with getting older because it’s better than the other option, which is being dead. So I’ll take getting older.”

This seems like a simple statement, but, there is actually a lot of truth in these words. As we get a little older, it’s easy to focus on the small inconveniences that enter our lives. Our bodies don’t work quite as well as they used to. Most of us don’t have the financial resources that we hoped we would by now.

The truth is that turning 60 is a reason to celebrate! We are one of the first generations to have the wonderful problem of deciding what to do with our 60s, 70s and 80s. The only alternative, as Clooney says, is death… and that’s not a path that any of us want to take a day sooner than we have to.

George Clooney Quote About Getting Older #2:

As you get older and ease your way into being a character actor you have to be comfortable with where you are in life and career, and I'm very comfortable with what I'm doing - working on projects I'm proud of. - George Clooney

“As you get older and ease your way into being a character actor you have to be comfortable with where you are in life and career, and I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing – working on projects I’m proud of.”

After decades of supporting out families and navigating our careers, many of us feel like our 60s and 70s are a time for following our passions. While many of us will continue to make a difference through our work, others will get involved with charities or volunteer organizations.

From this perspective, I completely agree with Clooney on this. Life after 60 should be a time for working on projects that you can be proud of. Your dreams won’t wait for you. Start building your new life today!

George Clooney Quote About Getting Older #3:

I find that as you get older, you start to simplify things in general. - George Clooney

“I find that as you get older, you start to simplify things in general.”

This might seem like a strange quote, coming from someone with almost limitless resources. At the same time, many of us can relate to this. Simplifying our lives is not just about saving money. It is about saying “no” to the things that are not important and “yes” to the things that have the potential to make us truly happy!

By the time we reach our 60s, we have a lot of baggage – emotional and physical. Every unnecessary item that we remove from our lives frees up energy to apply to our passions.
