It took me a while to realize I was not a natural beauty.
The first inkling came when I was 11 years old. I figured out how to maneuver the mirrors in the bathroom to get a look at my profile. I was horrified. My nose had far too many bumps. My lips stuck out and a layer of fat marred my hopes of a chiseled sharp chin line.

I attended a conference in December where Meryl Streep was asked what advice she would give the 11,000 attendees.
Without a moment’s hesitation she said, “Stop worrying about your weight. Women lose way too much of their energy worrying about their weight. They could be using that energy for far better things.”
Last year, Jane Fonda proudly announced that she had put on some weight, and that she was looking better. She said growing up, she was told it was a choice between her ‘ass or her face,’ but now she’s getting complements on both.

When it comes to dating over 60, have you ever thought about how myths about aging might be holding you back? For example, one of the biggest stereotypes is that the older you get the less interested you should be in sex. What rubbish!
Why is sex after 60 so rarely seen on TV and in the movies? After all, sex is an important part of life at every age. It is one of the most intimate ways that we can communicate with another person. Many would also argue that sex is essential to our emotional and physical health.
Many people are highly skeptical about dating after 60. By the time we reach our 60th birthday, most of us have our share of emotional bruises. In this video, I interview a professional dating coach Lisa Copeland who talks about whether it is possible to find love in your 50s and 60s.
Is sex after 60 really better than ever? Or, does Hollywood have it right when they portray sex as a young person’s game? In this interview, I talk with dating coach, Lisa Copeland about love and sex after 60.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Morocco and I’m still happily discovering all its hidden surprises. For the first-time traveller, there are endless discoveries in a culture rich with history and African, Middle Eastern and European influences.
Have you shied away from staying in hostels because you thought you were just not the right age?
Since 2013 we have been on the road continuously travelling and have stayed at many hostels in the last three years. I was hesitant at first; I thought there may be an age gap.
How wrong I was.
I always travel like a millionaire – as in getting to and from a place – but I don’t always “vacation” like a millionaire. I’m perfectly fine with staying in a barebones eco-bungalow on the beach, or taking a rough and tumble road trip through the countryside and finding a B&B for the night. Because I live with a millionaire mentality, I always have a grand time.
I was the first person in my family to attend college. Like many boomer women, I did not follow a traditional path. I chose to not marry right out of high school and, instead, decided to travel and pursue a university degree.

As people age, happiness is often based on connections with family and friends. Some of us may not have those ready-made ties and perhaps need to look elsewhere to stay active and engaged. Having a job may be the answer. But I often hear seniors say, “I can’t work. I’ll lose my Social Security.”
I ran into a former colleague at a party recently. He told me that despite having a prestigious and well-paying job in the private sector, he felt like he needed to move on from his current position because he’s been wearing a “costume” to work for the past two years.
The use of beneficiary designations is one issue that is not well understood and can lead to much confusion.
Most people think it is a simple matter of naming a person to receive certain assets by will or trust or naming them as a beneficiary of a retirement plan. I only wish it were that simple!
I wasn’t old enough to rent a car, but in my early 20s a major brokerage firm recruited me to become a stockbroker. I was excited until I figured out that I’d just committed to a career of telemarketing.

It took me 50 years to discover the power of a childhood friend. It all started when I was shipped off to sleep away camp in the summer of 1969 and met Betsy Brown. By 1975 we were already too old for camp.
As women who grew up in the 1960s, dance has been a part of our lives since the very beginning. But, if I’m right, most of us haven’t had a chance to see our favorite 1960s dances performed – let alone put on our dancing shoes and try them ourselves – for many years.

It’s that time of the year when many of us are making lists. Sometimes, we’re enumerating things to do, while other lists may include loftier goals for the coming year or names of people or events we appreciate.
How many times a day do you give gratitude for your gifts, for your family and for the blessings of your life?
I’ll admit it. Some days I forget to make my gratitude intentional, and then when I realize I haven’t done so, I understand why my day is off balance. “Oh, that’s why I’m not fully present!” “Oh, that’s why everything I do seems to be slightly off!”
Oh, how we wish for things to be different: Our bodies strong and healthy and, preferably, slim. Our children stable and successful; our grandchildren happy and thriving. Loved ones alive and healthy. Our marriages deeply loving, or else wishing for that elusive man to complete us. Plenty of money in savings.
