We all acquire lumps and bumps and wobbly bits as we become women of a certain age.
By the time we are 50, we start feeling and seeing the effects of gravity and the loss of elasticity in our skin. Even thin people lose this elasticity. Pull the skin on the back of your hand; it no longer bounces back into shape – and it happens all over your body.
Women should dress their age. Children should be seen and not heard. And men should bring home the bacon.
You’ve been invited to a casual dinner with friends. It’s going to be a great time. You love their company, and you enjoy laughing and chatting over good food and a few glasses of wine.
But what are you going to wear?
Say the word, “spa” and it conjures up lifestyles of the rich and famous.
There’s no denying that spas are extremely expensive. However, SPA, or “salute per aqua” is an ageless tradition dating back to Roman times. Honoring your health and well-being with body caring treatments should be a right of all human beings.

As boomers, we’re used to having our blood glucose levels measured during our annual physicals. After all, our risk for developing diabetes increases with age. Many of us now know our A1C levels as well as our cholesterol, iron and calcium levels.
It is that time of year again when you may be focusing on eating healthier. One way to accomplish this goal is avoiding, as much as possible, ‘empty calories,’ i.e., foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.
Do you remember the days before some brilliant innovator built a suitcase with wheels? I walked across three terminals with my luggage the other day and was so grateful for those wheels.

I’ve met a lot of discouraged mid-life ladies, women who worry that, when it comes to dating after 60, all men want is someone young and hot. And yes, most men would like to find a younger woman; and they put a premium on aspects of beauty that are tough to maintain as we age. I could tell you they don’t, but I’d be lying, undercutting my own credibility, and going against data collected all over the world.
Yet you can successfully compete with younger women. Here’s how, in five scientifically proven steps:
Like so many things in life, dating is a numbers game. But, as we get a little older it sometimes feels like the odds are tipped against us! There is good news though. In the last few years, companies have started to realize that there is a huge opportunity to help people over 50 to find partners and have opened senior dating sites just for us.
Many older single women spend a lot of time looking for an attractive, kind, older, single man. While it’s true that some of us find the man of our dreams after 60, the majority of women that I have spoken to are deeply skeptical of this approach.

Have you tried travelling with grandchildren? If you haven’t, my husband and I heartily recommend the experience!
In recent years, multigenerational travel has become a growing market. An emerging subset based on this is grandparents and grandchildren are taking trips together, leaving the parents at home.
American expatriate Hester Witchey, 79, grew up near Cleveland, Ohio, where she taught elementary school for close to 40 years before retirement.
As I sit here, feeling cozy back at home, my mug says “Alaska, the last frontier.” I am trying to keep the spirit of the amazing month of July alive in my thoughts.

Have you ever thought, “I’ve got to get my spending under control?”
That’s just what I was thinking on a Saturday morning while going over bills. Somehow I’m always surprised at how all those little purchases add up. I’m 60. You’d think I would have figured this out by now.
The convention wisdom is that starting your own business as an older adult is next to impossible. If you ask the average person why it is hard to start a business after 50, they will give you a litany of reasons, most of which will be based on tired aging stereotypes. Here are a few examples:
Our attitudes toward the important things in life – relationships, money, and careers – are shaped by the experiences we have in our youth. The Millennial generation – our kids, in other words – are demonstrating this in their attitudes toward saving, investing and real estate.
Check out this interesting article in The Motley Fool on the financial habits of Boomers versus those of their children. It gives us a whole new take on the term “sandwich generation.”
One of the major concerns for those entering into retirement is no longer having a paycheck. In addition, there is a normal fear of running out of money and having to spend what we spent a lifetime saving. One of the primary issues is how to make withdrawals from the various accounts we have built up and the timing of withdrawing from these accounts, both personal and retirement.

It is winter and except for a few of us who live in the tropics, most are experiencing some cold weather. We probably will not get snow where we live this year but the mornings are still very cold. The evenings are cold enough to enjoy a fire in our cozy living room.
The holidays, with their many gatherings and social opportunities, have passed. I still feel the warmth of many renewed connections. Some were stimulated by relatives and friends sharing information about past and upcoming trips, others by the sadness over the many health problems that we’re all facing.

It took me 50 years to discover the power of a childhood friend. It all started when I was shipped off to sleep away camp in the summer of 1969 and met Betsy Brown. By 1975 we were already too old for camp.

Our friends, pets and family links are like a beautiful rope bridge that supports us as we wobble across the chasm of life. When we are young, we often run along that bridge not looking over the edge, just heading for the opposite bank.
According to Wikipedia, “Space is the boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events have relative position and direction.”
That is fine in its own way, but I want to explore the space beyond objects and events, deep into our personal spaces, in our heads, between each of us, in our lives.
