After a successful keynote speech we had co-presented, my friend Susan and I celebrated over a couple of cold beers. Maybe it was the beer, or the relief I felt after delivering our presentation, but I blurted out something I hadn’t intended to confess.
If you’re like me, you want to look your best whenever you leave the house. That principle applies to travel, whether for business or leisure. The right accessories can transform a limited wardrobe into a myriad of outfits.

Do you have some days when you feel hungry all day, no matter what you eat? That might be because you didn’t get enough sleep the night before.
For those of us living in the United States, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. Warmer weather has arrived, the days are longer, the grandkids are out of school, the pools get uncovered, and cook-outs are the order of the day.
When my father was in his mid-80s, I remember him saying that when he was 75 he had to let go of thinking he was 40. He lived for another 10 years after saying that! Interesting – a mixture of a positive mindset and some realism.
I used to have a terrible time sleeping. I would either lay awake for what seemed like hours or wake up two to three times each night like clockwork. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why I was awake, worrying about things I had no control over.

Like so many things in life, dating is a numbers game. But, as we get a little older it sometimes feels like the odds are tipped against us! There is good news though. In the last few years, companies have started to realize that there is a huge opportunity to help people over 50 to find partners and have opened senior dating sites just for us.
Many older single women spend a lot of time looking for an attractive, kind, older, single man. While it’s true that some of us find the man of our dreams after 60, the majority of women that I have spoken to are deeply skeptical of this approach.
Women in their 60s have enjoyed wonderful relationships and experienced their share of disappointments too. Some of us got married right out of high-school. Others waited until their 20s or 30s to tie the knot. Still others of us decided to stay single and chart our own course.
Regardless of the paths that we took, most of us quickly came to understand men. We may not have always liked what we saw, but, unlike men, who constantly ask “what do women want,” we knew what to expect from the opposite sex.

My first solo cruise was such a great experience, much easier and more fun than I ever expected. It was a small ship (700 passengers) and not entirely full so it was a good way for me to try cruising. Also, I met so many wonderful people – couples and singles – who were happy to talk about their experiences and give me good information on what to consider if I wanted to continue cruising.
There are 66 million family caregivers in the U.S. alone; 70% are female and 25% are Millennials. Caregivers suffer worsened health than non-caregivers and 40-60% report symptoms of depression. Some caregivers, like my sister, pre-decease the ones for whom they care.
We have probably all traveled with too many bags. We struggle through the airport and try not to topple over on the escalator. We scramble to find a luggage cart or a porter and then cross our fingers when it comes time to check in and weigh our bags.
There are many ways to select a travel destination. Perhaps the city or country you want to visit has always been on your bucket list.
It might be a mysterious place that calls you at a deep inexplicable level. Perhaps it’s simply somewhere that feeds one of your passions or has historical significance.

The first phase in preparing for a job interview is to gain a better understanding of your own interests and single out what you bring to the table. This is a critical first step.
It is well understood that hiring managers primarily choose a candidate based upon a perceived chemistry. How will this candidate fit into our culture? Will I want to be around them for the large amount of time I spend at work?
So much is written about the search for work today. When it comes to finding a job after 50, much of it is helpful, but only some of it is true. Some consists of more myth and misunderstanding than fact.
Times have changed. Few people today think of retirement as being “put out to pasture.” After all, day after day of hitting the golf course probably would get old very quickly. That’s why most people think of retirement as a chance to begin a new chapter in their lives.

Are you an older adult who loves to drive? Or are you worried about your own senior mom or dad driving?
Being an aging single introvert, I find that I am now more confident in recognizing and stating my need to be alone. At the same time, when I’m in a social setting, I’m also more confident than I used to be – maybe because I have had the time to recharge my inner battery.
I first learned about the topic of food waste reduction two years ago. After doing some research, I was compelled to blog about it.
On July 8th, I made the decision to climb Mt. Kenya, the second largest mountain in Africa, at 17,053 feet high. Five years ago, I had made a similar commitment to do Kilimanjaro, and that decision changed my life forever.

“When will Mommy come, Grandma?” my granddaughter used to ask several times a day when she was little. At first, I assumed she missed her mother. I’m sure that was true some of the time, but usually she didn’t seem sad.
If I had to define what I see as the mantra of the amazing, inspiring, dynamic 60+ers I so admire, it would be “Stay positive. Put in the effort. Keep on truckin’.” OK, not elegant, hardly haiku material, but so true!
As a healthy aging writer, speaker and consultant for the past 20+ years, I’ve spent a great deal of time campaigning against ageism and identifying how easily it can creep into our subconscious and influence personal health beliefs and behaviors.
