When you were growing up, I bet there was a trend or style that every girl had to have. For some women, I hear it was saddle shoes, and for others it was the Capezio shoes!
I grew up in a small southern US town where the ladies dressed to the nines for just about everything. Church, bridge, mullet roasts, garden circles, campaign rallies and the Friday night football games. Even the older ladies did this – especially the older ladies.
We all acquire lumps and bumps and wobbly bits as we become women of a certain age.
By the time we are 50, we start feeling and seeing the effects of gravity and the loss of elasticity in our skin. Even thin people lose this elasticity. Pull the skin on the back of your hand; it no longer bounces back into shape – and it happens all over your body.
Women should dress their age. Children should be seen and not heard. And men should bring home the bacon.

What are your biggest regrets? If you’re in your 60s, you may have regrets about your relationships. Or, perhaps you think that your choice of career was a mistake.
Well, talking with the other women in our community, I can promise you one thing – by the time you reach your 70s, one regret will drown out all others. I’m talking, of course, about how much you saved for retirement.
What do you think is the worst mistake that you can make at your retirement party? Having one too many glasses of champagne? Nope. Telling blue t-shirt Bob from accounting what you really thought of him all these years? Not even close! In the book about downsizing called The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, it’s suggested that you discard items in your home that don’t bring you joy. The same could be said about friends, I suppose.
Are you looking forward to reconnecting with your creative side after 60? You know that this is healthy and will do wonders to smooth out the edges of the past few years. Decades even. One favorite option is painting, but before you begin you need to make a critical choice. What medium will work best?

Last year, the magazine Allure took a courageous step forward on behalf of all women. It will no longer use the term anti-aging in its publication, thus accepting that moving through time is a natural process, to be celebrated and appreciated for its own virtues, not something to battle against.
This month it will be one year since my Mother-in-Law (MIL) moved into an aged care facility. At 90-years-old, she had celebrated her 90th birthday and 70th wedding anniversary in the same week.
When Naomi Beth Wakan wrote her book of memoirs in her 80s, she called it Some Sort of Life. I want to share her unconventional life story with you to illustrate the traits needed to succeed in today’s short-term employment ‘gig economy.’
If you are stuck, it is time to get unstuck. Nothing ages a woman, in my opinion, more than being stuck in a rut, no matter what part of her life we are talking about.
