I have something to confess: I never liked studying history in school.
I think the reason is the way it was taught. We had to memorize the dates when popes and monarchs reigned, presidents and prime ministers served in office, significant battles were fought in major wars, and so forth. We never learned about what life was like for the people living then. We never read their stories.
I’m sure most every woman reading this article has some sort of pearl jewelry by this time in her life. It seems like many of us have been gifted the items or they’ve been handed down through the generations.
And while we have these items, I have to ask, how much do you wear them?
Is your closet jam-packed with clothing you no longer wear? Would you like to try a new look, improve your image or gain more confidence? What about your hairstyle? Do you wear it the same way all the time because you don’t know what to do with it?
Granted, times, opportunities, healthcare and attitudes are different from when our mothers were in their 60s, resulting in a currently “smarter” generation when it comes to information access.

Lifting your loved one or supporting their weight when they walk may seem like a workout in itself, day in and day out. However, there are many reasons you need to go beyond your usual caregiving duties and find a way to truly exercise each day.
Do you think about the future with a sense of excitement, hope or positivity?
Research suggests that how we think about the future influences our life expectancy. In one study, people with positive perceptions of aging were found to live an average of 7.5 years longer than others.
Have you heard that brushing your teeth with your opposite hand is good for your brain? Have you actually done it? And how did your brain feel? Did your memory improve?
As Audrey Hepburn once said, “The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.” Our eyes and the vision that comes with them are a precious gift. We want to enjoy that gift for as many years as possible.

Our lifestyle is now minimalistic so our travel style should represent the same.
Since 2013, we have travelled the world with too much luggage. Do you know the feeling? How many times have you packed clothes or even shoes that you didn’t even wear? Our goal was to travel lighter and smarter!
I’ll admit that, when it comes to finding the best cruise, price is probably the first thing that most of us look at. This is completely natural. After all, if you don’t have the money to set foot on a luxury ship, what’s the point in researching the quality of its spa or the depth of its itinerary?
With the rest of the world waiting to be explored, why should you return to a place you have already visited?
There are three reasons, I believe, to go back to an amazing destination.

As we start to reach retirement age, many of us are facing a harsh reality. We simply didn’t save enough for retirement.
Some of us planned to continue working into our 70s, only to be pushed out by the very companies we dedicated ourselves to for decades. Others miscalculated how much money we needed to retire comfortably. Still others lost a significant percentage of our savings in the Great Recession.
A quick Google search shows just how polarized our opinions about reverse mortgages are. If you start to type in “Reverse Mortgages,” you will be greeted with the following auto-completion options:
At a local meeting on health care financing, a lawyer neighbor of mine, “Sam,” offered a free half-hour consultation on estate planning at the large law firm on whose staff he serves.
Being hopelessly naïve, and forgetting the rule “there is no such thing as a free lunch,” I signed up, also thinking I’d be doing him a favor as he’d get a little credit from his colleagues for having gotten an enrollee.
Do you know what older adults fear most? Is it death? Nope. Getting a serious illness? Not even close. According to a survey by the financial company Allianz, baby boomers fear running out of money in retirement more than anything else.
Specifically, they found that 43% of boomers feared outliving their savings. That’s more than the percentage of people who feared cognitive decline and loneliness combined!

Are you imperfect? Good. That means you are human.
But are you coming to terms with being imperfect? Ah, there lies the challenge.
I know this feeling of sameness so well. It starts with being grumpy for a few days or weeks – on edge, short-tempered. Then I’ll start sleeping poorly. I know that it’s taken a hold on me when I don’t want to get up in the morning, when I pull the covers over my head instead of going out on a run.
On the surface, the idea for Winchester has merit. Put one of the most talented actresses in the world in one of the most haunted houses in the world, stir in some dark psychological mysteries and… voila! You have a hit!

Do you feel like you keep starting over with the same goals? About this time every winter I realize that I have already given up on many of the things that I wanted to change about myself in the new year. About two weeks in! Can you believe it?
Most of us do not stop to reflect on how entwined our identity is with our work roles. Have you noticed how people meeting you for the first time tend to start a conversation by asking what you do?
Those of us who have watched our parents slip into old age, face multiple health challenges and then pass through death’s door, know that the end-of-life journey can be tricky.
When we refuse to judge others, we express love and compassion. Love does not mean we become passive and allow others to abuse us. It is quite the contrary.
