By the time we reach our 60th birthday, most of us are perfectly comfortable in our aging skin. We have even learned to embrace, or at the very least accept, our wrinkles. At the same time, while we may be comfortable with our bodies, we still want to look and feel our best.

In a recent interview with celebrity makeup artist, Ariane Poole, I sat down to discuss how to embrace positive aging, while keeping our aging skin as healthy and vibrant as possible. I hope you enjoy the show!

Is it Time to Upgrade Your Approach to Your Aging Skin?

In previous videos, Ariane and I discussed the importance of changing your makeup techniques and products as you get a little older. In this video, we discuss a complementary topic – skin care for older women.

Ariane believes that cleansing, exfoliating and protecting your skin is essential to getting the look that you want at any age. Keeping your skin healthy also gives you a good foundation to work with as you apply your makeup. She points out that you can spend all the money in the world on expensive foundation, eyeshadow and concealer, but, they will be useless unless you keep your skin healthy. This is especially true as we age.

Healthy Body, Healthy Skin

Ironically, the first step to keeping your skin healthy has nothing to do with what you put on your body. Instead, it has to do with what you do with your body. This is why Ariane recommends that each of us take a holistic approach to our aging skin. She says that we should embrace exercise, nutrition, natural skin care products and maintain a positive attitude. All of these pieces go together.

Dealing with Dry Skin After 60

One of the most common questions that the women in our community ask Ariane is how to deal with their dry skin.

In the video, Ariane reminds us that dry skin can be hereditary, but, it is made worse through bad habits like smoking or spending too much time in the sun. In addition, an unhealthy environment, air-conditioning, and even excess heat, can dry out our skin. This really is a case of “first do no harm.” So, before you rush out to buy the latest “anti-aging cream,” ditch your bad habits!

Ariane provides some specific product recommendations for dealing with your dry skin. She recommends using gentle cleansing and abrasion to remove dead skin and moisturizers to soften it.

One of Ariane’s (and my!) favorite natural skin care products is coconut oil. Chances are you already have this miracle substance in your kitchen and you are probably not using it to its full potential! Ariane reminds us that coconut oil can be used to cleanse and clear your dry skin prior to moisturizing. It can even be used by women with oily skin and it especially good at removing eye makeup.

Will “Balance Me” Balance You?

During our interview, Ariane recommends a specific collagen face wash by Balance Me, which she describes as a wonderfully effective cleanser. You can massage it on to your face and rub it off with a flannel. After this, you can apply any moisturizer you want.

Other Tips for Getting the Most from Your Aging Skin

Ariane says that Vitamin C supplements can be helpful, but, this obviously depends on your unique situation and your diet. In addition, she suggested using mild microdermabrasion, such as the Origin pads, which can help to remove dead skin cells.

There Are No Magic Wands

When it comes to skin care and makeup, it seems like we are always looking for miracles. The truth is that there are no magic wands when it comes to aging skin. All we can do it take care of our bodies and make sure that our skin has the nutrition, moisture and loving care that it needs.

This is what I love most about Ariane Poole. She offers practical advice and specific recommendations. But, she is also honest when it comes to what to expect from specific products. I hope that you enjoy my latest interview with her.
