Essential Cold Weather Beauty Tips for Women Over 60

By Sixty and Me October 29, 2015 Makeup and Fashion

When the weather begins to cool (and you’ve stopped reminiscing about summer and evenings by the beach), you’ll usually find that there’s actually quite a lot to look forward to.

Cold weather signals the approach of the holiday season, with Halloween celebrations and Thanksgiving dinner, but it also means it is time for a new beauty regime. After all, we may be over 60, but, we still want to look and feel our best!

To make sure you look great, whatever the weather, you need to know everything from how to get rid of chapped lips to how to maintain an all-year-round glow. Here’s how:

Embrace Fake Tanning

Cold weather is often accompanied by a lack of sunlight, which leaves us feeling pale. This can really sap your confidence so why not cheat and do a bit of fake tanning to see you through to next year’s summer?

You may be cautious about tanning from a bottle and struggling to explain your sudden darkened complexion but the emergence of gradual tanners means this needn’t be a worry. Apply this type of product lightly every few days and get a natural glow that helps to stave off the winter whites.

Remember Skin and Lip Moisturizing

A combination of harsh winds outside and moisture-draining central heating inside your home can often lead to dry skin. To protect your skin, apply a good quality moisturizer to any areas that are likely to be exposed to the elements before you leave the house.

If you’re using a light moisturizer then you may want to swap to a thicker one to address the changing conditions. You should also remember to focus on sensitive parts of your body, such as your lips, as well as obvious extremities like your hands.

If you want to know how to get rid of chapped lips then there is plenty of advice online but a simple tip is to moisturize regularly. To stop your central heating aggravating the situation, just put a small bowl of water by the radiator. This will be absorbed into the air to replace the moisture lost from the heat.

Don’t Forget to Exercise

Cold weather can often put us off our usual exercise regimes and this can affect how we look and feel – but it doesn’t have to. If you’re an outdoors type then why not try cold weather sports? Even going for your usual jog can be exhilarating if you take care to wrap up warm first.

Of course, if you prefer indoors activities then you’ll find lots of options that help you shut out the cold. Opt for team sports or fitness classes that will give you a clear structure to follow and help you stay focus.

When exercising in any weather condition you must remember to stay hydrated. This will help get rid of chapped lips, keep dry skin at bay and support your workout.

There are lots of things you can do to stay beautiful, happy and relaxed all through the colder months. Follow these tips to achieve a year-round glow by making sure you know how to get rid of chapped lips, how to fake tan sensibly and how to continue exercising no matter what the weather.

Before you know it, spring will be here again.
