Forget The Kominsky Method – Michael Douglas Shares the ‘Douglas Method’!

By Sixty and Me January 12, 2019 News

After more than fifty years working in the entertainment industry, it’s no surprise that Michael Douglas, 74, has acquired quite the collection of acting awards and accolades during his career. His bevvy of awards includes everything from two Oscars, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, an Emmy, an AFI Life Achievement Award, and a variety of countless others.

And last night at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, Douglas added one more award to his collection as he took home his sixth Golden Globe Award for his performance in The Kominsky Method.

Endless Gratitude

While some actors might become a bit lax in preparing their award acceptance speech, especially those who have won and given countless acceptance speeches over the years, Douglas is certainly not one of those actors as he did not disappoint with the speech he gave while accepting the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy Sunday night.

Always humble, Douglas took the stage at the 76th Annual Golden Globes to accept his award and pay tribute to his father, legendary actor Kirk Douglas, 102, sharing the acting advice that his father gave him years ago, saying, “Stamina and tenacity. He was out of the school where you give your best shot, you give the best thing you can, and then f— it. That was the best advice I got.”

In the past, Douglas has been open about the concern that he might not live up to his father in the acting department, saying, “I thought I could never be the actor Dad was, so I avoided it for a while. Not a lot of actors’ kids make it. Hollywood is awash with failures.”

Luckily, Douglas overcame his fears and went on to build an illustrious acting career that has earned him countless awards, critical acclaim, and provided years of entertainment for fans.

And although Douglas admits that there was a period of time in his career where he struggled with enjoying the craft of acting due to a harsh inner-critic, at 74, he now finds himself happier than ever before.

“I love what I’m doing. This is actually probably the most joyful time for me, the realization that you can be doing this for the rest of your life. I’m planning on it. So, this is the time of your life when you really appreciate being an actor.”

The advice that his father gave him and his love of being an actor weren’t the only things that Douglas shared his appreciation for at the recent Golden Globe Awards – he also used the spotlight to share his growing love and adoration for his wife of 18 years, fellow actor, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 49.

He told reporters, “We celebrated our 18th anniversary recently, and besides the genuine love that only continues to grow, I think the fact that we’re in the same industry really helps us to understand what is going on. It was great for her to be here tonight and to share one of those nice things where your partner totally understands what’s going on.”

With his recent award, his continued acting success, and his happy marriage and beautiful family, it makes sense that Douglas would feel such gratitude for the many blessings in his life – and we love all the warm and fuzzies that we get hearing him vocalize that gratitude!

Congratulations, Michael Douglas – we cannot wait to see what you do next!!
