Get Lovely Lashes at Any Age with a Volume Mascaras
When it comes to enhancing your eyes, there are so many different factors to consider – eyeshadow, eyebrows, eyeliner, under-eye area, eyelashes. It can be difficult to narrow down all the products available for creating beautiful eyes.
While all aspects of eye makeup application are important, choosing a good mascara to enhance your eyelashes is essential for creating that wide-eyed look that we all desire. This becomes especially important for women like us in their 60s, since we often have to deal with thinning or sparse eyelashes that come with age.
When it comes to mascara, the choices are plentiful. Even within one brand of makeup, you might have to choose from among 10 or 12 different types of mascara. How in the world do you pick the right one?
Don’t panic! With the help of celebrity makeup artist, Ariane Poole, we’re going to simplify the entire process of choosing the perfect mascara for your lashes.
Let’s get started!
Things to Keep in Mind When Choosing Mascara
As we age, our lashes tend to thin out, so you want to look for a volumizing product first and foremost when shopping for mascara.
Length becomes less important for women of a certain age because it can actually create a spidery-eye effect that is not terribly flattering. The goal should be fatter, fuller lashes.
After choosing a volumizing mascara, you want to focus on color choice. Ariane advises picking a black or blue shade of mascara as opposed to brown. Brown can make your eyes look tired which is the opposite of what we want.
You can even try out a dark purple which will help to make the whites of your eyes appear even whiter. Even if your hair color is blond or gray, you should still stick with a dark shade of mascara.
When it comes to applying mascara, Ariane assures us that the techniques are very simple. The following steps will help you achieve full, thick, beautifully made-up eyelashes:
First, make sure that your lashes are clean. If you use an eye cream or facial oil that gets on your lashes, your mascara is not going to stay on. Ensure that your eyelashes are oil free.
Avoid pulling on the lashes. Simply begin applying mascara to the center of the lashes and work outwards, while looking down. Continue to layer until you are satisfied with the amount of product on your lashes.
Use a heated eyelash curler to curl lashes after applying mascara. Take special care to lift up lashes at the outer corners of eyes.
Very lightly apply some mascara to the lower lashes – keep it light to avoid a spidery look.
Ariane reminds us that everyone is an individual and will have slightly different preferences regarding makeup application. But with mascara, we can all benefit from a few basic tips – choose a volumizing mascara in a dark color, layer and pay attention to the outer corners of your eyelashes.
With these amazing tips from our favorite mascara application guru, Ariane Poole, your lashes will be looking fat, full and perfectly volumized in no time!
