I Love Homemade Body Scrubs! Just Mix Coconut Palm Sugar, Coconut Oil and Sandalwood Essential Oil

By Margaret Manning July 13, 2016 Beauty

I absolutely love playing with homemade body scrubs. After all, the body scrubs that you can get in most stores are super expensive. In addition, many commercial body scrubs include ingredients that you might not even want on your skin!

So, over the last year or so, I’ve started to experiment with creating my own luxurious body scrubs from items in my kitchen. Today, I’d like to share my favorite coconut palm sugar, coconut oil and sandalwood essential oil body scrub.

It works wonders for my skin and I hope that you enjoy it too!

Making a Coconut Palm Sugar and Coconut Oil Homemade Body Scrub

First, let’s talk about the ingredients. As you know, there are really two ways to make a homemade body scrub – with salt or sugar. Personally, I prefer to use sugar because it won’t sting if you have little scratches on your body.

The sugar that I have decided to use today is coconut palm sugar. This is not the same as the palm sugar that you usually read about. It’s actually made from the sap of the coconut tree.

As a side note, this particular sugar has a fabulous – and somewhat unusual – taste. It reminds me of caramel, which I love!

To make this scrub, you only need 3 ingredients:

1/2 cup of coconut palm sugar

1/2 cup of melted coconut oil (I actually use a bit less than 1/2 cup because I like it thicker)

5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil – I’m using sandalwood oil here

Just one quick note before we get mixing. Whenever you are using anything new on your skin, it’s a good idea to test some on your arm first. Just put a little drop and wait for 20-30 minutes to make sure that there isn’t an allergic reaction.

Now, put the sugar into a bowl, add the coconut oil and mix. Don’t worry if it feels too “liquidy.” It will thicken as the mixture cools.

Finally, add your favorite essential oil. I’m using about 10 drops of sandalwood oil. If I am making a scrub to use before bed, I often add lavender oil instead. The choice is completely yours!

Making a Luxurious Body Scrub Gift

In addition to using the body scrubs that I make, I often give them as gifts as well. Just find a beautiful little mason jar, tie it with a bow and you’re good to go.

I promise you that the gift will be much appreciated – and you can pull it all together for much less money than you might imagine.

I hope that you enjoyed this short video. If you have ideas for other recipes, body scrubs or creams that you would like me to try, please add them in the comments section below.

What is your favorite homemade body scrub recipe? Do you add essential oils to your body scrubs? Which ones? Please let me know if there are any other recipes that you would like me to make a video for.
