Margaret Manning:

My guest today is Ariane Poole. Ariane is a professional makeup artist who makes women around the world look and feel beautiful with makeup. She has her own wonderful product line, too.

Ariane is also featured on QVC UK and on TVSN in Australia. She’s been working with Sixty and Me for over four years now, and we always love having you here, Ariane. Thanks so much for being here.

Ariane Poole:

I love being with you, and I love sharing my information. I like hearing your comments back as well, so it’s all wonderful.

Margaret:

Today we’re going to be sharing all the wonderful products each of us has discovered over the past few months. They’re fun things that we think are super cool. Ariane, please go ahead and tell us what you’ve been finding in the world of beauty.

Ariane:

I have red hair now, but my gray still comes through, of course, and I can’t keep on coloring and coloring. A while ago, I had to do a QVC feature, but I had a wide strip of grown gray because I’d messed up my scheduling with the hairdresser.

Margaret:

And you don’t really see the gray on top until you put your head down.

Ariane:

Yes. So, I happened to be doing a talk at a hair salon, and they had this product called Wow. It’s a powder hair color. I didn’t have time to get my hair done before the talk, but I couldn’t just stand there with all that gray on my head.

So I purchased this, and it has been a Godsend. I went to QVC and popped this on, and I did not have any of my gray showing. It’s easy to apply and it’s great for eye brows, too.

Margaret:

Does it come with a brush?

Ariane:

Yes, and I got the red shade to match my hair color. What’s great about this product is that it also makes your hair appear thicker. So, if you’re like myself and your hair’s getting finer, you can definitely put it to use. If your scalp is starting to show through, this will cover it up nicely, and you can see the ‘wow’ effect.

Margaret:

They do it in a blond color, too?

Ariane:

They do different shades of blond, like platinum, sunkissed, etc. They even do dark hair colors in various different shades. I love this product. I actually I carry it in my handbag.

Margaret:

Does it wash out when you wash your hair? It’s temporary, right?

Ariane:

Yeah, it just fills the void for the time being. I can say from experience, as I’ve tried many products for thinning hair, that it does a great job. This way your hairline looks naturally full.

Margaret:

I’m happy to share this product because it really looks like a good deal. Who makes it?

Ariane:

It’s called Color Wow, and you can just find it online. It’s sold in hair salons, department stores and drug stores worldwide.

Margaret:

Wonderful. What else have you got to share?

Ariane:

I discovered this next thing because I was doing the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show which is sponsored by Estée Lauder. Estée Lauder have created a new Double Wear foundation called Double Wear Nude, and it’s really lightweight. It literally feels like water.

So if you like their full coverage and have been a fan of Double Wear, but you’ve noticed it may be getting a little bit too heavy for your skin as you’re getting older, Nude is a great option. They also do Double Wear light, but it is still a little heavy.

The nude one has blown me away. I was using it on everyone at the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show because it’s long lasting. The models had to be done from 8:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night with no time to retouch.

And these are real women, not young 20-somethings or teenagers. These are women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.

Margaret:

So it works for a great age range. Is it lighter than the light Double Wear?

Ariane:

Yeah. It is, but it covers just as well as Double Wear and Double Wear Light. I am blown away by how good it is.

Margaret:

It does sound really good. Sometimes, when I’m doing work on the camera, for example, I would put on cream or something heavier because of the shine. Would it be okay to use this nude Double Wear on top, like a lightener?

Ariane:

Yeah, absolutely. I was surprised that they could get that formulation so lightweight, so it literally feels like water.

Margaret:

Those are two good discoveries. Do you have any others?

Ariane:

I’ve got one more. When I was in Australia a couple of days ago, I needed to have my hair look a little bit fuller, especially when I was going on camera. There I discovered a product called Bedroom Hair by KEVIN.MURPHY.

You just take the bottle and spray your hair a couple of times. It’s not a dry shampoo, but it gives incredible volume and fullness with just a few spritzes. It’s also important that I can do it myself, and the volume stays.

It doesn’t feel yucky either. Some similar products feel sticky and tacky on your hands, and sort of crispy on your hair. This doesn’t feel like that. When I put my ponytail up the other day I was amazed.

Margaret:

Because you had something to work with. It’s a great feeling to put a bobby pin and not have it just slide through your hair. I definitely have to get that spray because I, too, like to actually feel my hair. Unfortunately, like you, mine’s gotten so thin.

Ariane:

My hair used to be my crowning glory. Some people just have the most amazing hair. A friend of mine, Beverly, who’s in her 70s, has a hair of a 20-year old, and she’s thinking about having it thinned down! I’m like, “Oh please, don’t even speak to me.”

Margaret:

So, you’ve actually focused more on hair discoveries this time. I have discovered a couple of lip products. The first one that caught my attention is a lip stain by a company called Huda Beauty. It comes in a package of three pieces: a pencil and two lip stains, one darker than the other.

According to the instructions, you apply the darker one on the edges of your mouth. Then you fill in with the lighter one, so you get that kind of pouty look, which is nice. These colors turned out too dark for me, but I decided to play around with them a little and discovered some magic.

We all know that as we get older, our lips lose color. They basically fade away. So, in our desire to look good, we try to fill them in. We apply lip pencil, and we try to make them darker. Then we mix it with our lipstick, and it looks funny.

This stain turned out to be a nice base for me. I apply it lightly, let it dry, and then I put my pink lipstick on top. The effect was really good because now my lipstick actually looks pink. When I do it any other way, it just looks rosy. So this stain was a really good find for me.

Ariane:

So it’s like a lip foundation but without the foundation-y kind of feel. It neutralizes your lips and puts back that color that you had when you were younger. That’s why the lipstick colors that you choose are more true. That’s brilliant.

Margaret:

And since it’s brown, it hides the blue in my lips.

Ariane:

Yeah, because the blues on your lips will change the color of the lipstick. Now you’re going to have much better options with choosing different colors of lipstick.

Margaret:

Exactly, so it was a good find. The next one was this lip gloss by Marc Jacobs. It’s in the more expensive end of lip glosses, and I bought it on a whim. I just wanted it so much. The price was very high, but I am happy I got it. It looks great and feels very soft on the lips.

Ariane:

Don’t feel bad about buy it. When you buy something that makes you feel happy every time you use it, it will give you positive energy and that’s great.

Margaret:

I’ve got one more little find which I bought at Kiko. I must have looked at a gazillion nail polishes this month, and I’ve decided I don’t like dark nail polish. I just want pink.

Ariane:

Everyone’s different.

Margaret:

I was trying lots of shades of pink, and there are many. Some are grey pink, some are fuchsia, and I finally found a nice pink one in Kiko. I don’t know the exact color, but it was $5.

Ariane:

Exactly. Sometimes you spend more, sometimes you spend less. What’s interesting, Margaret, is the color of the lip gloss and the nail polish.

Margaret:

I know. I’m a pinkie.

Ariane:

And that’s wonderful. We gravitate toward certain things at certain times of the year and certain times of our lives because they make us feel good. I think that’s exactly how it should be. When we choose things based on our inner guidance, we always choose best.

Margaret:

I agree. I love having you on the show, Ariane. Thank you for sharing your discoveries and insights with the Sixty and Me community.

Ariane:

Thank you, too.
