Happy 84th Birthday Sophia Loren – We Love Your Authenticity and Passion for Life

By Margaret Manning September 20, 2018 News

I love Sophia Loren. There is something about her authenticity and passion for life that makes me want to do more. Today, on September 20th, Sophia celebrates her 84th birthday. Let’s take a look at her life and wish her all the best!

Sophia Loren he has been described as the most beautiful woman in the world. She is also an acclaimed actress. However, it is not these facts that I find fascinating. What I find interring about Sophia is the way in which her complex past and humble beginnings let her to become the woman that she is today.

Sophia was born in Rome and was not considered a beautiful baby. In fact, she was apparently a reserved child, who grew up in extreme poverty with her large family in her grandparent’s home. She even shared a bedroom with eight people.

Despite her humble beginnings, Sophia began her film career in 1951. She went on to star in many films and won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in the film “Two Women” in 1961. She later received an Academy Honorary Award in 1991.

As you might expect from a complex woman, thrown into the spotlight, Sophia’s life was full of drama, love and excitement. She was involved in a love triangle with Cary Grant, but, married film producer Carlo Ponti. They were together for 50 years, until his death in 2007. According to Loren, the secret to their happy relationship was maintaining a low profile, despite their celebrity status. As she said, “Show business is what we do, not what we are.”

This is one of the things that I love about Sophia Loren. She was able to separate a glamorous celebrity lifestyle from her precious and meaningful home life. She considered herself a mother and wife first. She took the time to raise her children and remained true to her humble Italian roots.

Today, Loren lives in Geneva, Switzerland. She says that she continues to see the world as a place full of beauty, “I always wake up early and jump out of bed – sometimes not wanting to, because one can always find an alibi not to exercise – and then I take a walk for an hour. And as I walk round the park I always think, ‘Maybe round the corner I am going to find something beautiful.’ I always think positively. It is very rare that you find me in a mood that is sad or melancholic.”

Learning to see the world as a place of wonder and opportunity is one of the keys to happiness in life after 60. Sophia Loren is a shining example of someone who is doing exactly this. Of course, as a famous actress, she has resources that most of us don’t. But, given her humble background, I’m confident that she would be a positive and happy person, no matter her financial situation.

Let’s take a few seconds to wish Sophia Loren a very happy 84th birthday. I hope her positivity and persistence encourage you to get the most from your own life, no matter where you are from or what you are going through.
