Bond girls have been a central part of the James Bond experience, since the films were first released in the 1960s. There have been exceptions, especially in recent years, but, for the most part, “bond girls” have been seen as accessories, rather than meaningful characters.
Another common characteristic of all bond girls is that they are young. Apparently, despite his deadly skills, James Bond doesn’t have what it takes to challenge someone his own age!
For most of our lives, we have been told that retirement is the ultimate destination. After decades in the workforce, we are told that retirement is a time to relax and enjoy life. If only it were that simple!
I’ve always had a soft spot for Richard Gere. Beyond the fact that he’s a talented actor, there is a depth to Richard that I find fascinating. On the surface, he seems calm as a still pond in winter. But, whenever I look into his eyes, in a movie, it’s almost as if he is laughing at the world. He seems to know something that the rest of us don’t.
Some of our older Sixty and Me sisters probably remember watching Psycho when it first released in 1960. But, even those of who were too young to experience this iconic movie when it launched, saw the iconic “shower scene” at some point in our lives.
Two of my favorite actors of all time are Lily Tomlin and Sam Elliott, so, I was so excited to find out that they will be appearing in “Grandma,” a new film by Sony Pictures. In the film, Tomlin plays an opinionated, yet ultimately charming grandma, who is refusing to be invisible after 60.
Most older women have experienced ageism in one way or another. Some of us have struggled to find a job due to outdated aging stereotypes. Others have seen their careers grind to a halt in their 50s or 60s. Every single one of us is pressured by society to look younger, although we usually ignore this.
Few actors over 60 are as respected as Liam Neeson. His combination of charm and undeniable talent have also made him a favorite with the Sixty and Me community, who recently voted him as one of the sexiest men over 60.
Sam Elliott has always been a favorite of older women everywhere. There is something about his combination of genuine kindness and rough manly personality that makes us go crazy. In fact, when Sam turned 71, a few days ago, over 5,000 women in our community took the time to wish him a happy birthday!
Many Judi Dench fans, including myself, were shocked when her character died at the end of the last James Bond film, Skyfall. Some of us even secretly hoped that the whole thing has been a publicity stunt and that Judy Dench would make a surprise reappearance in the next Bond Movie.
