Take a ‘Girls Getaway’ with Oprah Winfrey!

By Sixty and Me October 20, 2018 News

If you’ve always dreamed of vacationing like a celebrity or even vacationing with a celebrity, now you can do both thanks to a partnership between the Holland America Cruise Lines and our favorite female mogul, Oprah Winfrey, 64.

Winfrey’s magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine, have joined forces to provide travelers with various opportunities to not only travel the world abroad a beautiful cruise ship, but to also enjoy activities and experiences that reflect the soul-expanding content found in O Magazine while on board!

While the partnership between the cruise line and magazine has been in existence since 2017, this is the first time that Winfrey will actually be on board with the guests as she celebrates being named the Godmother of Holland America’s newest ship, the Nieuw Statendam.

To kick-off her title as ship Godmother, Oprah Winfrey and a number of the magazine’s staff will be setting sail with travelers that sign up for the 3-day ‘Girls Getaway’ cruise on January 30, 2019.

Set Sail with the Stars

If you’ve ever looked at Oprah’s Instagram page, you know that the philanthropist, film star, TV icon, and all-around mega-mogul knows how to vacation in style. Montenegro, Croatia, Juneau – the list of beautiful destinations she’s visited goes on and on.

And soon, Oprah will be adding a few more destinations to that list as she joins travelers for the ‘Girls Getaway’ aboard the Nieuw Statendam on January 30, 2019. Those onboard will sail roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and spend a day at Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line’s private island in the Bahamas.

According to Holland America, “The Girls’ Getaway cruise celebrates the power of friendship and will have onboard experiences that honor and pay tribute to the bond between women.”

Joining Oprah on the 3-day travel experience will be her best friend and editor-at-large of O Magazine, Gayle King, who will lead three different ‘Conversations with Oprah’ sessions where guests will have the opportunity to hear Oprah share personal stories and experiences from her life that have helped shape her into the woman that she is today.

And if that wasn’t enough star-power for you, other important magazine staff members will be in attendance to host a variety of special events, including Editor-in-Chief Lucy Kaylin, Creative Director Adam Glassman, Beauty Director Brian Underwood, and Books Editor Leigh Haber.

For the fashion lovers, Glassman will host a special style session where he provides tips on fashion essentials that everyone should have in their closet and even head to the O Shop onboard to help guests shop for some wardrobe must-haves.

The ship will feature O’s Reading Room, a place for the bookworms to hang out and explore the latest book recommendations from Oprah and join Haber for a discussion with an O Book Club author (to be announced).

And if books and fashion aren’t your thing, the ‘Getaway’ will offer a host of other activities to meet your needs such as meditation sessions, yoga classes, and wellness sessions offering nutrition tips and treats for foodies.

In addition to all the mind, body, and soul-expanding wellness that will be offered on board, Winfrey will take part in a special ceremony and dedication as Godmother of the new ship.

President of Holland America Line, Orlando Ashford, said: “We are so excited to have Oprah set sail with us again for the Girls’ Getaway cruise in partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, and we’re deeply honored that Oprah will serve as godmother of Nieuw Statendam. The time-honored maritime tradition of choosing a godmother for a new vessel dates back more than 4,000 years and is revered as important in bringing good luck and protection to the ship and all who sail on board, so it’s perfectly fitting that the Girls’ Getaway cruise will take place on Nieuw Statendam.”

Ashford went on to say, “We anticipate the energy and inspirational spirit will be unlike any other cruise experience there is — and life-changing for many.”

We couldn’t agree more – a cruise vacation filled with self-care, wellness, a celebration of women, and Oprah Winfrey in the flesh sounds pretty life-changing! If you are interested in learning more, please visit: hollandamerica.com.
