Helen Mirren is Ready to Burn Rubber in “Fast 8”
It’s hard to imagine someone as sophisticated and cultured as Helen Mirren appearing in a film about illegal street racing, but, this is exactly what we can expect when “Fast 8” releases on April 14, 2017.
Fast 8 is the latest installment of The Fast and the Furious, a series known for its adrenaline pumping action, over-the-top chase scenes, big stunts and even bigger personalities.
What Role Will Helen Mirren Play? It’s Too Soon to Say
It’s not clear at this point what role Helen Mirren will play in the film. Personally, since she has always had a passion for cars, I hope that she actually gets the opportunity to take a Ferrari or two out for a spin. On the other hand, perhaps Helen Mirren will simply act as a counterbalance to the powerfully built, larger-than-life, characters that made the series famous.
What we do know for sure is that Helen Mirren loves cars. In a previous episode of Top Gear, she made it around the test track in an impressive 1 minute and 52 seconds.
Helen Mirren Wants to Be in the Driver’s Seat
Here’s what she said about her decision to appear in Fast 8 in a recent interview with Elle.
“Well, yes. I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’”
I don’t know about you, but, I get excited about every single one of Helen Mirren’s roles. At age 70, I love the fact that she continues to push herself artistically. The fact that she is willing to take on such a broad range of roles, from highly intellectual dramas to big-budget action movies says a lot about her perspective on aging. She really is living life on her own terms.
Fast 8 is still several months away and we don’t yet have a trailer that included Helen Mirren to share. As soon as she appears in one, we will be sure to let you know. In the meantime, check out Helen Mirren’s Top Gear lap. Then, let’s start a conversation!
