Many women in the community have asked me about shaping their brows. Since this is such a popular topic when it comes to makeup for women over 60, I turned to my good friend, Ariane Poole for some answers. She did an amazing makeover, with a focus on shaping brows, to show us exactly how to get the most from this feature.
Being a self-confessed makeup “novice,” our guest model Annie explained that she does not like a heavy makeup look. Her main desire was to accent her eyes by shaping her eyebrows.
Annie started the session by explaining that she does not like wearing a lot of makeup for three reasons. First as a busy doctor, she does not have the time. Second, she does not like the feel of heavy makeup products. Finally, like so many women, that felt that she lacked the skill to do her makeup properly.
Ariane set out to show Annie that today’s makeup formulations are both gentle and easy to apply. While Annie’s specific desire was to learn how to shape and define her brows, Ariane decided to give her a complete makeup makeover. Enjoy the show!
Ariane started Annie’s makeup application with Ariane Poole Tinted Primer in Light. She also suggested some other good options for Annie would be Bobbi Brown SPF15 Tinted Moisturizer, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or Estee Lauder DayWear Sheer Tint Release Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer.
Ariane used a special technique to shape and highlight Annie’s brows. Watch the video to see how she used a beige pencil to first highlight the areas of Annie’s brows that needed to be removed. Then watch how simple plucking opened up and shaped Annie’s eyes.
Ariane discussed tweezer-techniques and talked about waxing and threading. She explained to Annie that eyebrow shaping and defining is so important for all women because it lifts the eyes and face dramatically. She used Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in Ash. If I’m honest, this is one of my favorite techniques for applying makeup for women over 60.
Next, Ariane applied a small amount of Ariane Poole Mineral Illuminating Pen in Light on the bottom of Annie’s eyes. She reminded us to place the concealer in that special spot, low under the eyes. It would be best to watch the video to see exactly where this location is. Ariane offers other concealer options like Clinique Airbrush Concealer, or Liz Earle Light Reflecting Concealer.
Respecting Annie’s desire for a subtle look, Ariane used Ariane Poole Eye Shine in Stellar. She suggested that Annie might consider using Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Fuller Fudge.
She then created a very fine line on the top and bottom lashes. The effect was soft and flattering. Annie even applied the liner herself to show how easy it is. Ariane then used Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in Black and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara.
Annie has beautiful clear skin, so Ariane used Ariane Poole Mineral Blush in Rose Bud. She said that her skin colour would also suit Liz Earle Healthy Glow Powder Blush in Camellia. The effect is stunningly simple.
Ariane finished Annie’s makeover by applying Ariane Poole Luxury Gloss in Blossom Rose. It took just a few seconds to apply and it left Annie’s face glowing.
As Ariane demonstrated in this makeover, makeup doesn’t have to be complicated or heavy. Simple makeup can be fun. Most of all, like Annie, you can find the one of two parts of your face that you want to accentuate. Have fun!
