Thanks Age UK for Helping Everyone to Make the Most of Later Life!
When you’re in your 50s, or even 60s, it’s hard to imagine what old age is really like. You start to get a feeling for it by watching your parents. Perhaps you even have a few aches and pains – emotional and physical – to deal with. But, for the most part, most baby boomers don’t consider themselves “old.” Most of us even have trouble seeing ourselves as “seniors,” even if we technically fall into this category according to our age.
Today, I want to introduce you to an organization that, while you may not need their direct help, is still important for everyone in the Boomerly community to know. The organization that I want to introduce you to is Age UK.
Introducing Age UK
Age UK is a UK based charity that is focused on helping people over 60 to get the most from life. While many of their programs are focused on older seniors, there are still important reasons to understand what they do.
First, many people in the Sixty and Me community have parents in their 70s or 80s. Even if you don’t think that you can benefit from their information, campaigns or products directly, your parents might be able to.
Second, and just as important, over the next few decades, our generation is going to have to live with the policies for seniors that are being formed today. Supporting organizations like Age UK and The Campaign to End Loneliness is a good way to make your voice heard.
It’s also true that, if you live outside of the UK, you may not be able to benefit from Age UK’s work directly. If this is the case, I still urge you to take a look at what they are doing. After you do, perhaps you can send a letter to your local politicians, asking them what they are doing in your country to protect the rights of older people and reduce loneliness.
