As we age, we have to consider the issues of thinning eyebrows. What do we do to make them look better? Celebrity make-up artist Ariane Poole is here today to share some techniques and new products that she finds really helpful. Let’s chat!

Thinning Eyebrows: Essential Steps Before Applying Products

Before you reach for your favorite brow color, Ariane suggests grabbing your brow brush instead and brushing brows straight down. Color will get applied to the top of the brow instead of the bottom to make the eye look bigger and create a little lift.

Get It Straight – Your Brows, That Is

It can be difficult to decide how to best shape your brows but Ariane has a great tip for older women. After brushing brows downward and filling in across the top, ignore your natural inclination to bring your brow line downward at the end and instead, opt to bring your brow line a little straighter across then brush the brow back up. This increases the space between the brow and the eye, making eyes appear less droopy.

Picking the Perfect Product for Your Brow Color

While there is no magic product guaranteed to meet every woman’s beauty and skin care needs, it’s important to know what to look for in a brow color to achieve the results you want. Sephora carries a number of great brow products including Brow Builder and GimmeBrow that add thickness to thinning brows.

Does your hair have different shades of highlights? There’s a good chance your brows do, too. Ariane likes to use a metallic-y brow product such as Sephora’s Browfood Tinted Brow Enhancing Gelfix to add definition and thickness to achieve fuller, healthier, natural-looking brows. Simply lightly apply these products over your brows to create a fresh, flawless look.

Many women over 60 sport a natural salt and pepper look and wonder what shade they should use on their brows. Ariane loves a Bobbi Brown mascara wand in the color “slate” that brings out the perfect balance of dark and light in brows that naturally compliment a salt and pepper head of hair.

Put the Pencils Down

Brow pencils have been around a long time but most are too heavy and too waxy to achieve a natural, lush look. Instead Ariane suggests a great felt tip pen such as Steela’s Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color or By Terry’s Eyebrow Liner Color-Stain Pen to fill in the gaps in thinning brows. The goal is to create a soft, natural look.
