In the hustle and bustle of modern life, stress and anxiety have become all too familiar companions. This is particularly true for women over 50, who often find themselves juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, all while navigating the physical and emotional changes that come with age. If this resonates with you, it may be time to explore a natural, non-invasive solution: aromatherapy as a healing modality.
Aromatherapy, the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefits, has been used for centuries to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and alleviate anxiety. These oils, extracted from a variety of plants, possess unique scents that can influence our mood, stress levels, and overall sense of well-being.
Here are some essential oils renowned for their stress-reducing and anxiety-alleviating properties.
Revered in many cultures for its serene beauty, the lotus flower yields an essential oil known for its calming and soothing properties. Its sweet, floral scent can help to alleviate stress and bring about a sense of peace and tranquility.
Extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, neroli oil has a refreshing and intensely floral aroma. It is known to reduce anxiety, stimulate positive emotions, and promote a sense of calm and well-being.
With its bright, uplifting scent, sweet orange oil can help to alleviate anxiety and stress, promoting a positive and relaxed mood.
The queen of flowers, rose, produces an oil with a rich, intoxicating aroma that is known to soothe emotions, alleviate anxiety, and promote feelings of relaxation and peace.
Known as the “oil of tranquility,” vetiver oil has a grounding, earthy aroma. It is often used to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and help with sleep.
To harness the benefits of these oils, you can add a few drops to a diffuser or a warm bath. Alternatively, you can mix them with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or almond oil, and apply them to your skin. However, remember to do a patch test first to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction. You can also work with a Master Aromatherapist to customize a safe and effective essential oil blend targeted to your needs.
In addition to promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety, aromatherapy can also improve overall wellbeing. The scents of these oils can stimulate the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls emotions and memory, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
In conclusion, aromatherapy offers a natural, effective solution for those struggling with stress and anxiety. By incorporating these essential oils into your daily routine, you can create a calming environment that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety. So, why not give aromatherapy a try and experience the calming benefits of these natural wonders? Embrace the power of nature and let it guide you on your path to relaxation and tranquility.
Do you suffer from chronic stress or anxiety? Have you tried using essential oils to find relaxation? Is aromatherapy among the methods that work for you? Which essential oils soothe you best?

Yes! Aromatherapy is often overlooked, and its part of our earth as much as we are.I’ve been interested for many years, and use my favourite blend in a diffuser and put a drop or two on a tissue which I used as my perfume (my aroma). My adult daughter also has her own brand of beautiful essential oil products. She’s the one who first introduced me to essential oils when she was a teenager and now has her own business. I think its time to turn on my mister (diffuser?) right now. I use a blend of lavender, a drop of Lotus (the most expensive), & sometimes a touch of orange. My favourite pre mixed retail blend that is totally different is called “Zanzibar”…I use Zanzibar when i need a lift. Its a mixture of vanilla, clove, cinnamon and bergermot, ylang -ylang and frankincense.
