Ask Yourself Questions

Reflect on what you want to get out of your trip. Are you seeking relaxation, adventure, cultural immersion, or a combination? Asking yourself these questions can help guide your decision.

I’m not into traveling to third world countries much less traveling to any other country outside of the US. I will admit that Montreal Canada was amazing and I would go back there if anything. I would much rather travel around the US than any other foreign country.

Laura

My issue is because my best friend and my sister are still working I need to find travel that’s suitable for a woman on her own. If it’s somewhere I have been before I’m totally comfortable traveling there by myself. Someplace new – especially out of the country is a bit nerve racking! Thinking traveling with a group for my first time to Ireland, etc seems like my best option. I’ve tried to research groups for women over 60 and can’t seem to find anything even close to this. What have others used? What was your experience? Recommendations???

You might want to try a cruise first. Most cruise lines have solo cabins and a cruise is very cost-effective. Activities and food included. You get the chance to meet a variety of people in a safe environment. It’s one of my favorite ways to travel because it’s organized yet flexible.

Sandra Roussy

Great suggestion, Sandy!

Here is the link to an article you can read about cruises for solo women.

Nancy

Enjoying your list with some caution as some of the places you listed are not places I would recommend for unaccompanied or solo travelers, and some while dream locations are also extremely expensive. In the end, research, research, research any location you are planning to visit for the best mix of experiences.
The best adventure tour we have partaken of was to Mongolia, and on a complete flip side, the Polynesian Islands can range from the very expensive resorts to taking a vacation rental on Moorea which is very affordable.
Just keep on going!

Margaret Manning

Wow i don’t think we’ve ever published such a comprehensive article on travel ideas! Great ideas Sandra thank you!!!

Sandra Roussy

Thanks, Margaret!! Glad you enjoyed it! :))

Mary

Yes, I have a bucket list. Right now I’m trying to decide my next trip: Northern Lights, Utah Big 5, or Glacier. Because of the forecast for Aurora Borealis in 2024, I’m putting that first, but trying to decide between Alaska, the Yukon, Iceland, or a cruise to Norway! I love your list, it reminds me of where I have traveled; 9 of the 25 on your list! I’ve also done train travel in Europe and the US, and the cross country Canadian trip is on that bucket list!

Sandra Roussy

Thanks for your comment, Mary

Amazing! You are certainly a world traveler! Traveling outside our native countries is such a great way to open our horizons and our minds. :)

I would love to hear more about your travels and possibly include your stories and experiences in future travel articles here on Sixty & Me.

Don’t hesitate to reach out.

A land/sea cruise in Alaska would highly recommend. The scenery is majestic and sometimes heartbreaking. Research the best time to go because the cruise line recommendations are misleading at best.
