Crystals for Coping with Stress and Anxiety

By Xenia Mateiu July 26, 2023 Health and Fitness

Crystals and gemstones have long been used to relieve stress and anxiety, get support in difficult moments and comfort the mind. And while crystals are not to everyone’s taste, I hope some of you will find a helpful coping mechanism in using crystals for calming the mind and relieving tension.

Stress Is Not a Welcome Guest

We may get too caught up in what’s happening to us to notice, but stress can affect a significant part of what we do, think, or feel. We can experience stress on different levels, and it can manifest differently in each person.

For example, stress and anxiety can affect us physically; we can feel muscle tension, palpitations, frequent colds, and infections. Our body speaks to us; we must learn how to listen to it. Personally, it took me some time to realize that when I’m super tense, I feel a bit of nausea or some pressure around my stomach. The uncomfortable feeling was there; I just didn’t admit to myself that it could be caused by stress.

Anxiety and stress can also impact us on a psychological and behavioral level. We tend to think more negatively and get irritable. We have mood swings and difficulties concentrating and start relying more on coffee or other harmful coping mechanisms.

There are many ways in which stress, anxiety, and tension can manifest in our bodies and minds, and crystals can lend us their strength and calming energies for finding some peace.

The Healing Purple Amethyst for Overwhelming Anxiety

Many people struggle with anxiety for years, and some of us never knew life without it. But that does not mean we have to stop trying to find coping methods. Amethyst is one of the best crystals for alleviating anxiety and helping with days when we feel everything is going wrong.

Amethyst carries energy that brings clarity and reduces anxiety while also attracting peaceful vibes. When anxiety takes over, or you anticipate a situation that will make you tense and fearful, you can use the amethyst crystal to balance yourself in some of the following ways:

  • Put on a jewelry piece with amethyst or carry the stone into your pocket to infuse your energy with its calming vibrations.
  • Take a few minutes as often as possible to sit down and meditate with an amethyst stone.
  • Holding an amethyst crystal can also be very soothing, combined with practicing breathing techniques.
  • If you want to try working with your chakras, amethyst can help you reduce stress and anxiety by stimulating and opening the Heart Chakra; hold the stone close to your heart during relaxation.

If you do not have an amethyst crystal at home, you can still try meditation, breathing exercises, and taking time to do something relaxing, even without the stone. However, the amethyst stone is quite a powerful tool for coping with anxiety.

Blue Lace Agate for Stress and Tension Due to Poor Communication

The stress and tension we feel can result from poor or unhealthy interpersonal relationships, more precisely, due to lack of communication or misunderstandings. And tension between us and other people we care about can often lead to more tension; we say things we don’t mean, are hurt because of what the other person says, or simply can’t stand not discussing things properly. Various relationship dynamics can lead to stress and lack of communication.

Blue lace agate is a crystal for reducing tension between lovers, friends, or family members. It’s a stone for those who feel unheard or have difficulties articulating their feelings. This beautiful blue crystal will amplify your intention to talk things out and gain clarity.

If you lack proper communication in your home, you can place a blue lace agate crystal in your space to encourage calm communication and diminish tension and fear. If you need blue lace agate’s help outside your home environment, you can carry or wear the crystal to have its supporting energy beside you in difficult times.

Gentle Rose Quartz for Balancing Emotions During Stressful Times

When you are stressed and tend to prioritize others’ needs and requests, rose quartz can help you balance your emotions and turn your attention to yourself. Being compassionate and caring for others can enrich our lives, but some of us forget to be loving and compassionate toward ourselves, especially when stressed.

Rose quartz helps relieve stress, tension, fear, and anxiety by encouraging self-care and kindness. It can make us feel more grounded and emotionally stable, stimulating our Root Chakra and helping us become firmly rooted in our lives.

I recommend practicing loving-kindness meditation and self-love crystal-guided meditation sessions with a rose quartz crystal when stress and tension lead to overthinking and self-loathing. Wearing a rose quartz stone can encourage you to prioritize yourself in difficult times.

Healing Clear Quartz for Remaining Centered in Times of Distress

You might have heard that clear quartz is often called the Master Healer. It’s well appreciated for improving well-being, promoting positivity, and clearing away negative energies. When stressed, I love using clear quartz to find a moment of respite and inner peace.

Clear quartz can help us remain calm in tense situations; it can help us learn to respond to stress differently, reducing how long we experience stress caused by certain factors. After all, our minds and body influence each other intensely, and we often end up prolonging the way we experience stress by being unprepared to control our reactions to stressors.

So, allow the healing energy of clear quartz to help you remain centered in difficult moments and ease your experience with stress and anxiety.

When used with other stones that are great for stress and anxiety – such as the mentioned rose quartz, blue lace agate, and amethyst – clear quartz can amplify the calming and peaceful energies of the other stones. I prefer using these stones in a crystal grid for this purpose.

Black Tourmaline for Highly Sensitive People

If you consider yourself highly sensitive, you probably have difficulty dealing with energies from all kinds of people, especially negative vibes. That can be pretty stressful.

Black tourmaline could help you cope with some of the stress and emotional exhaustion produced by interacting with harmful energies. The stone can act as a powerful protector against negative influences, malevolent intentions, and the so-called “energy vampires.”

This black stone is also used for people who want help recovering from traumatic experiences and can be used to cope with the stress of such impactful negative events. Let black tourmaline infuse your aura and protect it by keeping the crystal close to your body while relaxing, lying in bed with a book, or going for a walk to take your mind off stressful things.

Finding Your Way to Cope with Stress and Anxiety

There are many other beautiful and powerful crystals that could work to reduce your stress and anxiety – such as sodalite, lepidolite, and aquamarine – but we are such unique beings in the way we experience stressful situations that what might work for me may not apply to you. It’s essential to find your own gemstone, activity, or habit and your own effective way of coping with difficulties in life.

I hope that you will find something helpful or inspiring in this article. And if you have been through a lot of hard times, I hope you will want to share some of the ways that help you cope with all the hardship with the other readers.

I wear my amethyst bracelet daily and also have many other amethyst pieces. I think there are many people who do not realize that some of their physical symptoms are caused by stress. Great article.

I carry a stone given to me the last few months of my husbands life. It was to give me strength. I still carry it with me most days. Looking for one right now to deal with physical pain.

Linda

When I had cancer a long time ago, I started having panic attacks after finishing all the chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. I was referred to a psychologist who told me to find an object like a stone that felt tactile and to keep it with me in my pocket or bag. She said if I felt anxious to hold the stone in my hand and focus on the shape and how it felt as it would take the anxiety away.
I chose a smooth egg shaped stone from my local beach and it really did work for me. I now keep the stone on my desk and look at it from time to time when I’m doing something. As I now live overseas I also have some seashells from my beach I focus on for calmness. I also like to hang things like jade from my desk lamp.

I hope you find the right stone for your pain.

I’ll try that…Thank you Linda

I have all those and more. Trying to figure out how to use them to help me.
