By Kathleen Cumberland April 18, 2020 Lifestyle

Every essential oil available on the market has dozens of uses. Even if you are an essential oil expert, there are probably a few oil hacks you haven’t heard about yet. Here are some handy uses:

Remove the Stickies

Eliminate gummy residue with Orange essential oil. Used sparingly, Orange removes sticky residue from surfaces.

Insect Banisher

Use a spray of Peppermint essential oil to rid your home of spiders, ants, and other creepy crawlies in and around the house.

Closet Freshener

Put a few drops of Lavender or Eucalyptus essential oil directly onto wooden shelves in your closets or into your drawers to keep area smelling fresh.

Air Cleanser

Add a few drops directly to your AC filter to freshen your house in a hurry. Lemon & Lavender is a lovely combination for this use.

Trash Smell Nullifier

Put a few drops of Lavender, Lemon, or Orange essential oil directly onto a cotton pad/ball and place in your trash can to keep it fresh smelling.

Quick Laundry Freshener

When I occasionally forget to put my laundry in the dryer, and it needs a bit of a refresh, you can do a fast rewash with a few drops of Lavender or Eucalyptus essential oil.

Stress Reliever

To reduce stress and improve productivity (don’t we all need that right now!) diffuse a few drops of Lemon essential oil.

Sleep Helper

To get a good night’s sleep, place a couple drops of Lavender essential oil on a cotton or a gauze pad and place it inside your pillowcase. The relaxing scent will start to lower your stress and help you fall asleep.

Another way to accomplish this is to add a couple drops of lavender oil to the rinse cycle next time you wash your sheets.

Bathroom Freshener

Keep your bathroom smelling fresh with this simple hack: drop 1 drop each of grapefruit, orange, and lemon (or lemongrass) inside your toilet paper roll. Each time you spin the roll a little freshness will be released.

Countertop Cleaner

Add a few drops of dish soap to a spray bottle and fill with water. Add about 5 drops of Lavender, Tea Tree, or Lemon oil to the bottle and use the spray to clean kitchen and bathroom counters.

Cosmetic Enhancer

Add some healthy therapeutic benefits to your store-bought lotion with essential oils. Just add a few drops of your choice of essential oil, straight or blended, to the bottle and shake well.

Alternately, place some lotion in your hand, add a drop of essential oil to the lotion and use. Here are a few wonderfully simple blends to try: Orange/Grapefruit, Lavender/Lemon, Lavender/Grapefruit, Eucalyptus/Spearmint.

To rev-up your moisturizer, add a drop of Frankincense or Geranium essential oil and blend well.

For dry skin, mix ½ cup of Coconut oil with 3 drops of Lavender essential oil and massage into your skin before bed. This mixture is wonderful for the feet! Just slip on a pair of socks and leave on overnight. It’s healthy and super moisturizing!

Instant Makeup Remover

Melt ½ cup Coconut oil in the microwave until just melted (do not overheat). Once the oil has cooled a little, add 5 drops of Lavender essential oil and pour into jar to cool.

When the mixture has cooled, rub a small amount onto your face and wipe with a soft cloth or tissues. Do not pull the skin. This makeup remover leaves your face feeling clean and moisturized!
