Oh, many folks think (and they think it quite loud),
“Once I’m ON MY PATH, I’ll feel certain and proud!
A burst of bright brilliance! A creative parade!
No doubts, no confusion, no plans left unmade!”
But here’s the small secret (now lean in, don’t roam):
You’ve always been walking your path all along.
Not someday arriving with trumpets and cheers,
But living it softly . . . for years upon years.
You worry and wonder, “Am I doing it right?
Will I trip off my path in the dark of the night?”
You twist and you tangle and tighten your grip—
Afraid that one misstep will cause you to slip.
But what if you paused, took a breath, and then said,
“I know where I’m going—I’m already led.”
And all of that worry (that buzzing, that hum)
Turns into space where new ideas come?
For ideas aren’t orders you must obey fast—
They’re breezes that whisper . . . then quietly pass.
They tickle your thinking, they dance, and they play,
But not every idea is asking to stay.
You’re not the sole owner of thoughts flying through.
They flutter by many, not only to you.
If one doesn’t fit you, just wave it along,
Another will catch it and turn it to song.
Oh, some folks wear armor (quite heavy, quite tight),
Protecting themselves from a “wrong turn” in sight.
They close down their thinking, they bolt every door,
Lest one risky notion come knocking once more.
But armor makes prisons, and prisons make small
The world that you’re living inside of it all.
For creativity isn’t some puzzle to solve,
It opens when trust lets your mind gently evolve.
You say, “I must choose! I must pick just one thing!”
A dancer? A writer? A cook? Or a king?
But life isn’t tidy or neatly arranged,
It flows and it shifts and it’s meant to be changed.
Be this for a season, then that for a while,
A tap-dancing thinker with astrological style!
Arrange a few flowers, then write something bold.
Then try something new when the feeling takes hold.
You’re not here to get it all perfectly right,
Or carry each idea from morning till night.
Your only true job (now this part is the key):
Is simply to live with a feeling of glee.
So trust in your choices (or lack of them too),
For nothing you choose can mislead what is you.
Each step that you take, each turn that you try,
Is still on your path if it passes you by.
So loosen your grip, let the tight thinking cease,
And watch as your mind fills with spacious new peace.
For when you stop judging each move that you make,
You’ll find you were never at risk of mistake.
Do you trust yourself with important decisions? What dilemmas have you had lately?
