Simple Style at 71

By Sixty and Me January 07, 2019 News

Glenn Close, 71, is no stranger to red carpets or award shows seeing as how she’s a six-time Academy Award nominee in addition to winning three Tony Awards, three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards…and countless others over the course of her more than forty-year career as an actress.

However, Close is more frequently recognized for her impressive acting skills and character roles than her consistently simple and timeless style – but after hitting the red carpet at the 30th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival looking simply stunning, we couldn’t resist applauding her enviable fashion sense.

Not-So-Basic Black

Close’s recent red-carpet appearance proved that the acclaimed actress can transform a basic black outfit into an anything but basic stylish ensemble just as easily as she has transformed herself for countless movie and television roles over the years.

In 1974, Close hit the entertainment world by appearing on-stage in Love for Love. The stage agreed with Close and she focused much of her career in the 1970s and early 1980s on appearing in plays and musicals.

She made her film debut in 1982’s The World According to Garp and went on to appear in box office successes The Big Chill and The Natural. All three of these initial films earned Close Academy Award nominations, solidifying the fact that she would have a long and illustrious career in Hollywood.

Over the years, Close went on to star in countless critically-acclaimed films and television series, wowing audiences and critics alike with her performances. Which is why it is so surprising that as of 2018, Close has earned the title of being the actress with the most Oscar nominations without a win.

But don’t worry, Close may have yet to win an Oscar, but she has won plenty of other awards throughout her career, and thanks to her recent outfit choice at the 30th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, she’s won us over in the style department! Not to mention that she took home the Icon Award at the Festival!

Close hit the red carpet wearing an elegant black jumpsuit that resembled a stylish business suit complete with a fashionable tie cinched around her waist, a black clutch, and black satin stiletto mules featuring delicate black bows.

She wore her short blonde hair in casual tousled waves and sported minimal make-up and simple dangly diamond earrings, allowing her natural beauty to really shine through.

Close looked every bit the icon as she took home the Icon Award that night for her recent performance in the critically acclaimed film, The Wife. The actress starred in the film alongside her real-life daughter, Annie Stark, who plays a younger version of Close in The Wife.

Close recently spoke on the Today show about what it was like being in a movie with her daughter, “I got out of town when she was filming all of that…she’s naturally talented, it is between her and the director…you don’t want your mum around for that.”

A stylish fashionista, an acting icon, and a cool Mom? Glenn Close really does have it all – a true icon in every sense of the word!!
