At the heart of every fulfilling lifestyle is someone who embraces being the designer of their own destiny.
But for most of us who are in our 60s and over, instead of being encouraged to be the star of our own lifestyle, we were likely shown how to be the supporting character in other people’s stories.
This means life has been shaped by responsibilities, expectations, and external influences where other people’s desires, needs and wants were more important than our own.
While fulfilling our responsibilities and duties can feel good, it is often at the expense of losing touch with our inner dreamer.
Your inner dreamer is your inner child. Do you remember her?
Your inner dreamer was the one who believed she could be anything before society told her otherwise.
How do you reconnect with your inner dreamer and become the star of your dream lifestyle story at this stage of your life?
You are about to find out.
This is our nineth article and video in a new, 12-part exclusive series for Sixty and Me readers titled “Visualize a Vibrant New Lifestyle After 60.”
Whether we were explorers, artists, storytellers, or dreaming of a new game to play, in childhood, our inner dreamer was the heroine of our adventures.
Over time, our inner dreamer’s light dimmed as we shrunk into the people-pleasing role of being supporting characters in other people’s lifestyle dreams.
But here’s the truth: Your lifestyle is YOUR story!
You (and only you) have full permission to change your lifestyle and rewrite your story at any time and any age.
This may all sound nice, but what does it mean to the practical, everyday lifestyle you may be in right now?
To “Become the Star of Your Own Lifestyle Story” means you:
One of the most debilitating myths about aging says you are unable to follow your dreams as you age. You are never too old to dream big, and it is never too late to rewrite your lifestyle story.
By embracing playfulness, reconnecting with your inner dreamer, and cultivating the courage to be the star of your lifestyle story, you reap many benefits, from learning to trust your accumulative wisdom to reclaiming your personal power to live your dream lifestyle on your terms.
Here is a 5-step inspired action plan for combining your inner child with your wise and inspired adult-self:
Imagine you are writing a movie script or novel starring YOU as the main character. Write a detailed character biography for your future self:
Read this biography every morning as a reminder of who you are becoming.
Don’t wait for the ideal circumstances to arise to make the changes you want. Start making them today!
Your dream lifestyle begins within you. That is why you must reframe the stories you tell yourself. This starts with inner dialogue. Remember, stars of their own story don’t say: “I can’t” or “It’s too late.”
Start affirming:
Think back to a childhood dream you once had about the lifestyle you wanted for yourself. Maybe you wanted to be an artist, writer, dancer, or take exotic adventurers.Find a way to reintroduce that passion into your lifestyle today, even in small ways.
If you cannot visualize your dream lifestyle you will have a difficult time creating it. Gather images, quotes, and symbols that represent you as the star of your dream lifestyle. Place it somewhere visible as a daily reminder to step into that role. When you look upon your images, take time to close your eyes and feel into the STAR you are becoming.
In our tenth article and video in this series, you will learn how to “Create a Mental Blueprint of Your Dream Lifestyle”.
