Is Your Anxiety on Overload?

By Jane Kennard August 06, 2026 Health and Fitness

Do you feel like your mind never stops racing? Maybe you’re exhausted from worrying… yet you can’t sleep. Your body feels tense, your thoughts won’t slow down, and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to relax.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Anxiety overload can look like:

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep.
  • Racing, uncontrollable thoughts.
  • Wanting to hide from everything.
  • Tight, tense, or trembling muscles.
  • Feeling irritable or emotionally overwhelmed.
  • A heart that just won’t slow down.

You don’t want to live like this anymore. You want to feel calm. You want to think clearly. You want restful sleep. You want to enjoy life again.

I’ve Been There Too

There was a time when anxiety completely consumed me.

I literally shook with fear. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. My mind replayed every problem over and over until I felt trapped inside my own thoughts.

Medication helped take the edge off, but I knew something had to change.

One day I made a decision:

“I refuse to live like this anymore. I’m going to get help.”

That decision changed my life.

With guidance, support, and practical tools to manage stress, I gradually became a different person. Today, I help other women discover that same freedom.

Four Steps That Help Calm Anxiety

1. Pause and Build Awareness

Anxiety moves fast. Healing begins when you slow down. Stop for a moment. Take a deep breath, and ask yourself:

  • What am I thinking right now?
  • What fears are running through my mind?
  • What story am I telling myself?

Write your thoughts down without judging them. Simply becoming aware of what’s happening inside your mind is the first step toward regaining control.

2. Practice Acceptance

Instead of fighting your anxious thoughts, notice them. Allow them to exist without criticizing yourself. Then gently ask:

  • Is this thought actually true?
  • Am I making assumptions?
  • Could I be exaggerating?
  • Is my past influencing how I’m seeing this situation?

Remember: Acceptance doesn’t mean you like what’s happening. It simply means you’re choosing to deal with reality instead of getting trapped in endless “what ifs.”

Be kind to yourself. Accept what is. Release what isn’t helping.

3. Change the Conversation in Your Mind

Our thoughts shape our emotions. When anxious thoughts take over, intentionally replace them with more balanced, hopeful ones. Instead of saying:

“This situation will never work out.”

Try:

“This situation will work itself out. I’m curious to see how.”

Curiosity creates space. Space creates calm. One of my favorite reminders is: Curiosity is one of anxiety’s greatest antidotes.

You’re not pretending everything is perfect. You’re opening your mind to possibility instead of fear.

Ask yourself: What can I learn from this?

4. Encourage Yourself with Affirmations

Your inner voice matters. Instead of becoming your harshest critic, become your greatest supporter. Create one or two affirmations that truly resonate with you.

Examples include:

  • I am courageous.
  • I am safe in this moment.
  • I can handle whatever comes my way.
  • I choose peace over fear.
  • I am worthy exactly as I am.

Repeat them throughout your day. The more you practice encouraging yourself, the more your confidence begins to grow.

A Client’s Breakthrough

One of my clients came to me overwhelmed by a difficult family situation. She couldn’t think clearly. Fear controlled every decision she made.

She felt stuck.

As she learned to pause, question her anxious thoughts, and replace them with healthier ones, everything began to shift. Adding daily affirmations helped reinforce her progress, and for the first time in a long while, she began to experience peace.

That’s the power of practicing these simple tools consistently.
