By Sue Rudolph November 22, 2024 Travel

Life is a beautiful journey meant to be explored at every stage. For those of you who love adventure, I have prepared this bucket list of experiences that offer a world of relaxation, wonder, and the joy of discovery. Let’s dive in!

Hot Air Ballooning Over Cappadocia, Turkey

Envision starting your day in Cappadocia under a sky awash with stars, as you’re gently lifted by a handwoven basket tethered to a magnificent hot air balloon. The quiet and calm as dawn approaches is spellbinding. As the first rays of sunlight edge over the horizon, your balloon rises above a fairytale landscape dotted with whimsical fairy chimneys and rock-cut sanctuaries – a geological wonder of grand proportions.

Each shift in altitude reveals new patterns in the earth below, from hidden valleys to ancient settlements. Post-flight, partake in a traditional Turkish breakfast paired with a celebratory glass of bubbly, building memories as vivid as the landscapes themselves.

Wildlife Safari in Kenya

Kenya calls to the wild at heart, with the Maasai Mara serving as your gateway to extraordinary wildlife encounters. Unhurried daily game drives take you through golden savannah graced by the sight of elegant giraffes browsing acacia trees and herds of elephants moving effortlessly across the land.

Capture the allure of a lion pride basking under the African sun, or the thrill of a cheetah’s silent pursuit. Beyond the iconic wildlife, the Maasai people offer a cultural tapestry woven of vibrant traditions and stories – a chance to gain insights into their harmonious way of life. Nights offer their own charms in a luxurious lodge, where spectacular sunsets and starry skies provide natural evening entertainment against the haunting cries of the wild.

Northern Lights Viewing in Norway

Nestled beneath Norway’s expansive Arctic skies lies a spectacle unlike any other – the aurora borealis. Here, tranquility reigns supreme within your heated glass igloo, an intimate cocoon from which to marvel at the luminous artistry overhead.

The auroras paint the heavens in ribbons of greens, pinks, and purples, curving and flowing in a symphony of color and light. Your time between light shows can be spent warming by the fire, enjoying candlelit dinners, or engaging in storytelling of Viking lore, each moment profoundly intensified by nature’s grand spectacle.

Pilgrimage Walk on the Camino de Santiago, Spain

Embarking on the Camino Frances isn’t just a journey across Spain’s dramatic landscapes; it’s an immersive pilgrimage steeped in history, devotion, and camaraderie. This tailored path introduces you to gentle walks aligned with your pace, allowing ample time for reflection amid lush forests, rolling countryside, and charming medieval villages. Each stopping point is a welcoming embrace, offering traditional lodgings and opportunities for dining on local Galician delicacies. Along the way, join fellow seekers on a path marked by stories of past pilgrims, basking in shared evening tranquility under the starlit skies.

Schools of fish weave through vibrant coral forests, while sea turtles and dolphins gracefully glide past. The Great Barrier Reef is more than a dive; it’s an immersive invitation to explore one of the planet’s most diverse ecosystems.

Feel the thrill of encountering the rich biodiversity of the Antarctic – see colonies of penguin’s waddle and seals bask on ice amidst endless expanses of snow and ice. An adventure in Antarctica is truly a journey beyond time.

I wonder if any of these trips have prices for single travelers (i.e, no single supplement). It’s not so easy to travel when you have to pay extra for traveling alone – which I prefer to do.

Linn Peteani

I agree……single supplements are a hindrance, I like single travel, too.

Sue Rudolph

Yes, there are options for no single supplement. Email me at sue@amazingtravel.com 1-714-963-5281 and I can give you some suggestions.

Hi Sue, would love to be a part of the 60+ travel group. Do you have any thing planned?

Sue Rudolph

Yes there are some trips that geared towards senior travelers. Contact me sue@amazingtravel.com

At least Australia is mentioned!
But you could also cross the continent (north/south or east/west) by rail.
Explore the incredible rainforests in Queensland.
Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Ride a paddle-steamer along the gorgeous Murray River.
Visit the Bungle Bungles in Western Australia.
Swim & sun bake at the beaches in Byron Bay or Cottesloe or the Gold Coast.
And the weather is great for most of the year! No snow anywhere except at the ski resorts in the depths of a cold winter.
And due to global warming that’s not happening much any more….

Thank you for this absolutely lovely list of Australian adventures, Jen! The article mentions just 10, but there are so many gorgeous places out there!

Sue Rudolph

Yes, I love Australia. I have been there over 20 times.

Winifred Kovacik

Amen to comment made already. I have been to other countries, but actually had an incredible time visiting all 50 states in USA. There are so many wonderful places to see – would love to start that all over again.

Sue Rudolph

That is awesome. There are still quite a few states I have not yet visited

Somehow, while I was reading this, I thought that the author must be a travel agent; how right I was! These trips don’t even appeal to me for the most part, not to mention the cost of them. I’m happy to know that my interests happen to be a little closer to home and are much more budget-friendly.

Vanya Drumchiyska

Hi Lisa,
I have fun traveling around my home country, too! And – no language barrier! :) But there are people who like to go visit other countries, and that’s great too! To each her own, I guess.

Beth

Most of these trips are out of my budget! I guess I will travel in the US. Maybe a trip to Ireland is in my future?

Sue Rudolph

Ireland is a beautiful place to visit.
