The Holiday Dilemma: What to Gift Your Grandchildren? Books of Course!

By Eve Panzer September 23, 2021 Family

September may seem too early to start our holiday shopping for grandchildren. But when I see a sale, such as the one they have on Barefoot Books (code BACKTOBOOKS gives you 20% off through September 30), and considering predicted shortages, I think now is as good a time to shop as any.

Moreover, to me, books are the gifts that keep on giving – especially when we choose a subscription book box!

How to Choose Books

If you aren’t sure which books your grandchildren might enjoy, take this opportunity to interact with each of them. Learn what their present interests are and what type/genre of books they read.

Selecting books for your grandchildren may seem challenging, which is why I will be writing a series of articles with book suggestions. I hope they will help your hunt.

Book Box Subscriptions

A Book Box Subscription is an easy type of gift. Also, it arrives each month, which is a great motivator for children who like to look at picture books and to read/listen to stories. The Barefoot boxes are perfect for Ages 0-2; Ages 3-5; and Ages 6-9.

Individual Books

If a subscription is not something you can consider at this time, you can always shop for individual titles – and there are so many to choose from! Below I will highlight some of the great books Barefoot Books are now offering on sale.

Incredible Animals

Incredible Animals (Ages 7-12) is a unique encyclopedia with colorful, engaging illustrations of animals and their environment. It includes a glossary of key terms and a table of animal groups.

Solar System

Solar System (Ages 7-12) introduces readers to concepts of physics, chemistry, and astronomy in a user-friendly way. This fact-filled book includes awe-inspiring glow-in-the-dark artwork.

Children of the World

Children of the World (Ages 3-10) is a festive, colorful look at cultures around the globe. Differences are celebrated while embracing commonalities of humankind. It provides a lyrical look into the beauty of diversity.

Animal Tales

Animal Tales (Ages 5 – 11) presents nine traditional folktales featuring animals from countries including Germany, Brazil, and Australia. Clever stories with universal messages will amuse the whole family.

Buddhist Tales

Buddhist Tales (Ages 6 and up) provides an approachable introduction to the wisdom of Buddhist teachings through stories from countries including Tibet and Japan. The introduction will help your grandchildren get an understanding of Buddhism traditions.

Earth Tales

Earth Tales(Ages 5 – 11) teaches conservation of our planet’s resources through 7 traditional folktales from around the world coupled with fun, simple activities for each story. The illustrations are colorful and engaging.

Have you ever taken your grandchildren shopping at a bookstore? What was that experience like? Do you have any suggestions for great books to gift grandchildren? What are some ways you use books to connect with your grandchildren?
