By Margaret Manning February 02, 2014 Managing Money

In this episode of the Sixty and Me Show, I speak with Ben Gran, a successful freelance writer, about how to start a writing business while still working or considering retirement.

We discuss how writing is a perfect “second act” career for women over 60. Ben describes how being a freelance writer provides a lots of flexibility and freedom to work when and where you want. It also leverages the experience, research and communication skills that older women have been perfecting all their lives.

We talk about how the internet has opened up all kinds of opportunities for project based freelance writing jobs with sites like Elance.com. Also Ben reminds us that most women over 60 have had years of work experience that they can draw upon to maximize their skills as great writers.

Finally, Ben highlights the three qualities he considers important for a becoming a freelance writer – curiosity, hustle and professionalism – all traits women over 60 have in abundance!
