💘 10 Smart and Sassy Tips for Using AI in Online Dating

By Andrea McGinty May 08, 2025 Dating

Everyone’s talking about AI – and yes, it sparks everything from awe to “Um, should I be concerned?” When my clients ask me how AI can help their love lives, I say, “It’s a tool, not a soulmate. Used right, though, it’s like having a nerdy-but-brilliant best friend who edits your texts and tells you which photo actually makes you look fun.”

Here’s how to use AI wisely (and avoid dating like a robot):

1. Don’t Let AI Write Your Profile from Scratch

Dumping in keywords like “travel, dogs, golf” gives you a cliché salad. I once saw “golf” used as a metaphor for life 10 times in one AI-written bio. My eye twitched.

2. Write It Yourself – Then Polish with AI

Once you’ve written a profile, feed it to ChatGPT or Claude and write a prompt like, “Make this fun and witty” or “tone: thoughtful, with a wink.” Use it like an editor, not a ghostwriter.

3. Message Help? Use AI, but with Caution

Your original message might be boring. The AI rewrite might sound like it’s auditioning for SNL. The sweet spot is in between.

4. Skip AI Photo Captions

No one’s swiping because of “Me, living my best life at brunch.”

5. Nervous Dater? AI Can Help

Ask for first-date topics based on your date’s interests. Not perfect, but a solid icebreaker generator.

6. Choosing Profile Pics? Try AI

Sites like HotPot.ai can rate your photos for likability. These tools are sometimes surprisingly accurate.

7. Spotting Red Flags

Paste a sketchy profile into AI and ask if it sounds fake. This is a helpful strategy if you’re unsure – though I still trust my own red flag radar more. Mine has over 30 years’ experience.

8. Plan Smarter Dates

Need a cute café halfway between West Hollywood and Irvine? AI to the rescue (and bonus points if it includes parking tips).

9. Outfit Advice? Surprisingly Fun

Tell AI your age, the venue, and the vibe. Results are hit-or-miss – but often entertaining and insightful.

10. The Best and Worst AI Tools

🟢 Use: ChatGPT, Grok

🟡 Meh: Claude (too poetic)

🔴 Avoid: Rizz AI (cringe), Cupid Bot (just… no)

AI can’t fall in love for you – or with you! – but it can help you show up as your best, most genuine self.

I use Gemini in Chrome to write birthday poems…two a week.Last year I wrote a poem about myself, as I didn’t think I would get any. As it was I got two poems. I use the pier for my profile. I get a few bites. I am 79.
