Finding the perfect dress for a wedding can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. The key is to choose a style that flatters your shape, feels comfortable, and suits the type of wedding you’re attending. Here are a few tips to help guide your search:
You’ll likely be sitting, standing, and maybe even dancing, so choose a dress that allows you to move freely. Look for breathable fabrics like jersey, crepe, chiffon, or stretch lace that feel good against the skin and don’t wrinkle easily.
Wrap dresses, A-line styles, and empire waist gowns are timeless cuts that flatter a variety of body shapes. Look for a style that highlights your best features without clinging too tightly in areas you’d prefer to skim over.
Many women over 60 prefer a little arm coverage. Cap sleeves, ¾ sleeves, flutter sleeves, or sheer overlays are great options that provide coverage without looking too heavy or conservative.
Before shopping, find out where the wedding will be held. A beach wedding calls for light, breezy fabrics, while a black-tie event may require a formal gown. When in doubt, a knee-length or midi dress in an elegant fabric works well for most occasions.
Bold prints can make a statement, but if you’re unsure, jewel tones, navy, soft pastels, or metallics are universally flattering. Skip white or ivory (unless requested by the couple), and consider what colors work best with your complexion and hair.
The right bra or shapewear can make all the difference in how a dress looks and feels. Look for dresses that accommodate your preferred support wear, especially if you’ll be wearing it for hours.

I like how all the models are no where near 60.
Hi Tina, and thank for commenting. Please note this is an article about dresses, not an article about models.
well it should be about the models as well and use over 60 ones. thx
Hi Stacey, yes, you are right, and we agree. Unfortunately, if you have looked for clothes in online stores, you have probably noticed that older models make up somewhere around 1% of choices. Even mother of the bride/groom dresses are showcased by younger models, which is absurd. And, believe it or not, sometimes the model is 60+ but the advertised clothes do not match what our community would like to wear.
It’s a tough choice, but since we don’t have models or clothes of our own, we can only choose from what’s available out there.
Which is why we’re asking you to be open-minded, disregard the model and just look at the clothes.
Another thing you could do is reach out to online stores and tell them you don’t feel represented because their models are too young. Many websites now have models of all skin color, so I don’t know why age should be any different.
Thank you!
