Happy 88th Birthday, Sean Connery!

By Margaret Manning August 24, 2018 News

Sean Connery was born in 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland, which just happens to be where my youngest son lives.

Today, on August 25th, he is 88 years old, so, I would love to wish him a very “Happy Birthday” on behalf of all the women in our Sixty and Me community – not only because he is an acting icon for our generation, but, because he is a man of deep character, who is aging his unique and wonderful way.

Let’s take a look at a few of the highlights from his amazing career. Then, let’s all wish him a very happy 88th birthday in the comments.

Many have argued Sean Connery was the best James Bond ever – he stared in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1988. He won an Academy Award for supporting actor in the movie “The Untouchables” and People Magazine voted him the “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1999. Appropriately, he was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth 11 in July 2000.

You probably already knew the highlights of his acting career. But, did you know that he started his career as a milkman in Edinburgh. Can you imagine receiving your milk delivery from Sean Connery? Hearts must have been breaking all over the city!

After that, he joined the navy, where he expanded his life experience and got two tattoos saying, “Mum and Dad” and “Scotland forever.” His non-acting roles included lorry driver, lifeguard, laborer and model – he is, without a doubt, a fascinating man.

There is no denying that Bond made him a star. Fortunately, he was able to expand his personal brand and he refused to be defined by that one iconic role. Later in life, he developed a passion for education and politics. His priorities were Scotland, acting and helping others!

If you want to find out more about what Sean is focusing on these days, you can visit his website, which is not flashy or promotional. I love the fact that, on his website, he says “While you are here, I would ask that you take a few moments to consider helping someone else. I would request that you help me to help others. The three areas that are very important to me are: education, culture, and Scotland.” What a refreshing message, especially compared to the self-promotional activities of most celebrities.

We love you Sean! Here’s to a very classy, elegant and beautiful soul. Let’s wish Sean Connery a very Happy 88th birthday!
