Judi Dench Says, “Goodbye Mr. Bond”

By Margaret Manning April 01, 2015 Mindset

I don’t know about you, but, I’m a huge Judi Dench fan. From her endearing performance in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel to her entirely believable portrayal of Philomena, Judi Dench never disappoints.

Dench got her start in the theater, performing with the National Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company. But, it was her performance as M in the James Bond films that gained her the most fans.

Well, Judi Dench fans, I have bad news – it looks like Judi Dench really is saying, “Goodbye Mr. Bond.” According to the Daily Mail, Ralph Fiennes really is taking over the role of M in the upcoming film Spectre.

Since the apparent death of Judi Dench’s character in Skyfall, many fans had been hoping for her surprise return. It now looks all but certain that this is not going to happen – at least not in the short-term.

The good news is that Judi Dench is showing no sign of slowing down. She recently appeared in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and she is working on two films, which will release in 2016. Her upcoming films include Schadenfreude and Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars.

Judi Dench may be saying, “Goodbye Mr. Bond,” but, she definitely isn’t ready to retire in real life. I for one am very happy that she isn’t!

What is your favorite Judi Dench film? What did you think of her portrayal of M in the James Bond series of films? Do you think that Ralph Fiennes will make a good M?
