4 Spring 2026 Makeup Trends That Work for Women Over 50

By Suzanne Blons April 07, 2026 Beauty

It has been cold, dark, and the air full of scary news events that make us wonder if it will ever end. Having said that, we are entering into one of our planet’s most beautiful times of the year – springtime! Flowers are blooming, evenings are warmer, and the hummingbirds are taking flight, reminding us of all the good in the world. To this end, we are talking about Spring 2026 Makeup Trends, curated especially for mature women.

Today my model is Edna, and we are demonstrating sun-kissed skin, soft and structured brows, smoky eyes, and glossy blurred lips. It’s all about pinks, freshness, and blooming flowers. Let’s go!

1. Glowy, Sun-Kissed Complexion

Heavy matte foundation is (thankfully) taking a backseat this spring. Instead, lightweight, breathable coverage is leading the way.

A CC cream is ideal for mature skin because it evens tone without settling into fine lines. Apply in thin layers, blending outward for a seamless finish. The goal is to let your skin look like skin, but if you use face powder, be sure you use as little as possible.

Bronzer placement is also shifting. Rather than contouring low on the cheekbones as we did last season, sweep bronzer slightly higher on the cheeks, across the temples, and lightly on the bridge of the nose. This creates a subtle lift and a natural sun-kissed warmth. As an aside, I also like to add a little under the chin and jowls to add warmth and sharpen up the jawline.

2. Soft Smoky Eyes and Pastels

Many of you are nervous about trying to create a smoky eye, but in the video, I show how to use a single shade called Vintage Mauve to build a beautiful smoky eye. I applied the cream eye shadow all over Edna’s lid, crease, and under her eye. Then I used circular motions to blend and remove any sharp edges.

After that, I used a Mulberry Eyeliner in the waterline and next to the lashes, top and bottom. Be careful, though, Edna’s eyes can handle eyeliner rimming her entire eye, but many women find this is too much. Go with what works for you, then soften with a brush or the sponge tip of the pencil.

Pastel shadows are also trending, which really makes my skirts fly up. I used a soft lilac glimmer shade just above her liner on the lid to add a touch of spring! If your eye lids are crepey, forego this step or use a matte shade.

Once finished, I curled her lashes and added a Mulberry Mascara for a full-on spring berry bling. Edna has hazel eyes, so the colors really popped.

3. Softer, Structured Brows

Overly bold, sharply arched brows are giving way to a more natural look. Thank God. I could relay many horror stories of women with Groucho Marx eyebrows, but I will resist.

Choose a brow pencil one shade lighter than your natural hair color in order to soften your face, as long as it doesn’t look weird. Use short, hair-like strokes and brush brows upward with a light gel to create lift without stiffness. On Edna I used a Silver Queen brow pencil and gel, and it looks perfect for her silver hair.

The result is polished but not overpowering.

4. Blurred Lips and the Return of Frost

Yes, frost and metallic finishes are making a comeback. When I heard this, I had a mini temper tantrum. Not the frost! Visions of overly high glitter eye shadow on skinny models ran wackadoodle across my mind…

Having said that, remember those glittery textures of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s? If you wore them today, you’d get locked up, but today’s versions are far more refined than the frosts of decades past. Use them in the center of a matte lipstick, or on top of a gloss, and you are frosty without being, uhm, around the bend.

The blurred lip trend is particularly flattering for mature women. Instead of sharply outlining lips, softly blend lip liner inward and run a lip brush or your finger over the liner before applying a rose or pink gloss. It softens down the liner, and you still get protection from lipstick seeping into fine lines. Win-win.

Lastly, I added a lovely rose cream blush to the highest points on Edna’s cheeks. This lifts and brightens the entire face, something we all can appreciate

I like the idea of lighter makeup in general. I am a natural blonde with hazel eyes and have a hard time deciding on which eye shadow color works well for my coloring. I am using muted shades for my eyelids. I just purchased a color mascara instead of the soft brown that was recommended forever. I thought the darker coloring around the model’s face and hairline to make a good impact on the model. This is something I would consider. Thank you for these tips and the video.

Hi Lauren, you are welcome! With your hazel eyes and fair coloring using soft purple tones can really be pretty and bring out your eye color. I used a bronzer around her hairline and under her jaw that warmed things up, too. I hope you try this look!

Eye lashes are my big problem. They have always been short but at age 89, they are super short and cannot be curled. I had the perfect mascara for years but the company decided not to make it anymore so I’ve spent the last two years looking for a replacement.

Hi Joyce! I’m impressed you are wearing mascara at age 89! I do like the PrimePrometics mascara; it helps to lengthen and comes off easily. I also have a thought; have you tried having your lashes colored? They do this at most estheticians offices and it lasts a month or two. This way you can avoid the whole mascara thing and still have darker lashes. Just a thought!
