No matter how old we are, we have the right to feel useful, vibrant and alive. This basic assumption drove the work of Dr. Bill Thomas, who set out to build a better nursing home. His approach, later called the “Eden Alternative” went on to be adopted by nursing facilities across the world who wanted to create “More autonomous and creative living spaces.” Join us as we discuss this story, plus some strange happenings at the Olympics, a political crisis in Brazil, the recent floods in India and much more! I’ll also introduce you to our community member, Dorina Flores-Laird. Come join us for a cup of tea and a chat! It always makes me angry that society expects older women to be invisible. It’s almost as if, once we reach our 60th birthday, we are expected to retire from life, throw out any clothes that aren’t navy blue or black and start playing bingo. What nonsense!
Well, if there is a “rule” that women our age should be “seen and not heard,” Diane Keaton certainly didn’t get the memo. Read More

I don’t know who first said that the brain is the most important sex organ, but, whoever they were, they were correct! In our 20s and 30s, it is easy to think of sex as an entirely physical process. Unfortunately, this focus on our external appearance can lead to poor relationship choices, low self-esteem and a lot of confusion. Read More

If you asked most people to list the benefits of yoga, “getting flexible” would be a popular answer. After all, the image – some would say the illusion – of a yoga practitioner is a young 20-something person twisting herself into a pretzel. In reality, the benefits of yoga, especially for seniors, go way beyond flexibility…

I almost can’t believe that Martha Stewart is 75 today on August 3rd, 2016. Where does the time go?
I probably don’t need to tell you that Martha Stewart is a creative genius and an incredibly complex woman. In her early life, she was a model, stockbroker and caterer. Then, she made her name as an author, cook, gardener, home décor expert, businesswoman, actor, makeup maven and, finally, entrepreneur! Read More

Most women my age are highly skeptical of anti-aging creams and potions. There’s a good reason for this… most of them simply don’t do anything! At the same time, most of us would like to have more energy and strength to explore the world. If scientists ever come up with a genuine process for reversing aging, we would find it hard to turn down. Join us as we discuss a study that claims to have found a hormone that may reverse aging in humans, a good news story about teaching kids kindness, the latest on Typhoon Nida, a Zika Warning in Miami and much more! The women in our community have strong opinions about going grey. Some women absolutely love their grey hair, while others, like me, continue to dye it blond, brown or even pink! Well, if you fall into the color camp, I have good news. According to scientists, we may have finally found the gene responsible for grey hair. This is a step towards reversing the process. Join me as we discuss this story, the first case of Zika transmitted in the U.S., a memorial for the priest who was killed in Normandy and a feel good story about a swimmer from Syria.
