Not so long ago, life after 60 was supposed to be a time of “aging gracefully.” After years of productive work, both inside and outside of the office, women were expected to retire to a life of quiet contemplation.
Well, judging by my conversations with the other women in the Sixty and Me community, this really isn’t our generation’s style!
Women over 60 today are vibrant and full of life. We want to be free to explore our passions without worrying what other people think. In order to do this we need to learn to love, explore and create!
Here are 3 keys to getting the most from life after 60:
Many women over 60 are single due to divorce, widowhood, or simply choosing not to marry in the first place. As a result, loneliness is one of the main issues that prevents women from getting the most from life after 60.
If you are single and are still interested in having a man in your life, there are more options than ever. Of course, as women over 60, we might have to be a bit more patient. But, the truth is that there really are people out there who would love to be in our lives if we let them.
If you are interested in exploring the world of dating after 60, I encourage you to watch my interviews with dating couches David Wygant and Lisa Copeland.
Many women over sixty are reluctant to date because they’ve been hurt in the past. In most cases, it’s time to forgive and forget. Please let it go!
If you have had toxic people in your life in the past, don’t let them continue to have power over you. You deserve love and happiness!
Even if you are not interested in finding a partner after 60, there are plenty of ways to stay socially connected. Perhaps you could consider finding a roommate. Or, maybe you have always wanted to try golf, yoga, tennis or another sport. If you have been by yourself for a while, you may feel that your social skills are a bit “rusty.” But, this is all the more reason to share your wonderful self with the world.
Now is the time to stop saying “I wish” and start saying “I will.” Have you ever noticed how time slows down when you do new things? If you sit at home all day, watching the TV, don’t be surprised if the “best years of your life” zip past in an unmemorable blur.
Keep exploring in your 60s, 70s and beyond. If you have the means, travel to exotic places, take a cruise, learn new languages and explore new cultures.
Even if you don’t have a lot of money, there are plenty of ways to explore the world around you. For example, you can always take a bus to a nearby town or explore your own city. Take your camera with you and document your adventures for your friends and family.
No matter where you decide to travel, take the time to look beyond the familiar. Explore secret places and find hidden gems. If not now, then when?
Life after 60 is a great time for creative expression. The world deserves to see your unique perspective. So, find something that you love to do and share your inner self with others. Do you love painting? Or, perhaps you always wanted to learn a musical instrument? Maybe you want to start a blog about your passion for old coins, new buildings or something in-between?
No matter what you love to do, there is a place in the world for your creative work.
If your creative energy takes you in an entrepreneurial direction, you could consider starting your own business. With more people than ever starting businesses in their 50s and 60s, you’ll certainly be in great company!
