7 Fun Ways to Feel Sexy Beyond 60

By Carol Wyer March 15, 2023 Lifestyle

Right about now, you’re probably groaning and thinking here we go, another article about dyeing my hair and exercising, and do I care about being sexy anyway?

Aha! You’re wrong.

Why We Should All Be Sexy Beyond 60

I have a very different approach to ageing. Basically, I think we should all work with what we’ve got. Studies reveal that at 60 we are more confident about our bodies than we were in our 50s and are keen to try out new activities and, in many cases, enjoy new relationships.

Should you be one of the many ladies who are not feeling that way yet, why not try out a few suggestions from my “how to feel instantly sexy” guide. If nothing else, they will help you meet new friends, feel healthier, and give you more confidence.

Here are a few suggestions from the guide.

Take Up Belly Dancing

I could write an entire post about the benefits of belly dancing. In fact, I could write an entire book, but let me say here that belly dancing will definitely make you feel sexier.

The belly dancing community is incredibly supportive and classes are huge fun. You will be surprised at the age ranges in the classes. It is not merely for the young.

I expected to spend my time sniggering as I wobbled my large out-of-shape belly, but I found it too enjoyable for that. The benefits are almost instantaneous and you will find you stand taller and straighter and hold that wobbly belly in from day one.

More importantly, you will feel more womanly and sexier. Several classes later and I am a convert, and my poor grumpy old husband has to run for cover now when I wave my coin belt at him.

Try a Burlesque Class

Yes, a burlesque class will leave you feeling much sexier. It is all about the slow tease in burlesque. People love it today because it incorporates all the old school glamour, and satire, and highlights the female form – it’s something that many women see themselves doing and quite honestly more and more “older women” are taking a taster class and loving it.

Burlesque takes its name from the Italian word burla, meaning joke, so I was naturally drawn to it. However, it’s advisable to not walk down the street in your Basque.

Stand Up Comedy

No, I have not lost the plot. I took up stand-up comedy some years ago. It’s amazing how well I was received, and men love women who can make them laugh. It is very empowering and boosts confidence to no end once you get over the initial jitters.

There are many courses where you can learn stand up or you can do one online, or just write a few jokes and test them out on your friends and family. Trust me – laughter is an aphrodisiac.

Invest in a Good Eyebrow Kit and Bush Up Your Eyebrows

Research has shown that we perceive women with thicker, flatter (not curved) eyebrows to be more youthful. This was certainly the case for me. A wonderful makeup girl pencilled me thick, dark eyebrows. Given my eyebrows dropped out years ago and migrated to my top lip, I was delighted to see how I looked with eyebrows.

My mother thought I’d had Botox when she saw me on television and couldn’t believe my transformation was down to eyebrows.

Change Your Mascara

I was given another top tip from a makeup professional – only wear blue or purple mascara. Black is too heavy for us “older” ladies but blue and purple makes the eyes look larger, and again you will look more youthful.

If you look more youthful, you will feel good about yourself. If you feel good about yourself, you’ll feel sexier. I rest my case.

Wear Red Underwear

Again, research has shown that if you wear the colour red, you feel more confident. Put it next to your skin and you’ll feel like a femme fatale.

Laugh a Lot

Not only is laughter good for your health, but also if you smile a lot and laugh, you are perceived to be younger than you are.

The list of benefits of laughter is lengthy. Laughter boosts the immune system by increasing the number of antibody-producing T-cells, releases tension, relieves pain, helps people with depression, helps boost memory, lowers your blog pressure, helps protect your heart, gives a great abdominal workout and may even help you find a new mate. Men love women who laugh in their presence, and women actually laugh 125% more than men.

Suffice it to say, you will feel wonderfully well after a hearty chuckle. Get hold of a box set of your favourite comedy DVDs or Netflix shows and settle down for a giggle-fest. You’ll be surprised what it might lead to.

You may not think it is imperative to “feel sexy” and for many, it is not a priority, but we are still role models for those yet to hit the big six-oh, so why not show them we can still enjoy ourselves, look good and enjoy life? Feeling sexy and well is all part of that, so let’s strut our stuff.
