Clothing for Women Over 60 – Embrace Your Bohemian Side (Video)

By Margaret Manning July 18, 2025 Beauty

I don’t know about you, but I think clothing for women over 60 is so much fun. It doesn’t matter that most of the major fashion brands ignore us. I’m SO over high heels anyway! What matters is that, as women in our 60s, we can finally feel free to choose clothing styles that fit our personalities.

How Would You Describe Your Style?

If you could describe your style in just a couple of words, what would you say? In my case, I’ve always thought of myself as a “cultured bohemian.” Actually, now that I think about it, a surprising number of women in the Sixty and Me community also use the word “bohemian” to describe their style after 60.

There is something about hunting for this particular style of clothing that makes me feel happy. It’s almost as if I am able to step away from the world for a few hours to go on a treasure hunt! Do you feel the same way?

So, to explore vintage bohemian style of clothing in more detail, I invited my friend and fashion for women over 60 expert, the fabulous Judith Boyd (a.k.a. “The Style Crone”), for an interview you watch above.

What Is Bohemian Style

“In modern use, the term “Bohemian” is applied to people who live unconventional and usually artistic lifestyles.” Wikipedia

Owning your own bohemian look can be as simple as adding a patterned scarf to your outfit – to an all-out flower-power look straight from the 70s.

Why Bohemian Style Appeals to Women Over 60

Bohemian fashion resonates with many women over 60 because it offers both comfort and self-expression. After years of dressing for work or others’ expectations, boho style feels like a return to personal freedom. Flowing fabrics, bold prints, and artistic accessories allow women to express their individuality while staying comfortable.

It’s also refreshingly age-free. Bohemian pieces aren’t tied to fast fashion trends or youth culture. An embroidered tunic or patterned scarf looks stylish at any age. For many, boho fashion reflects a creative spirit, a love of culture, and a desire to dress in a way that feels true to who they are now.

Examples from the Shops

The Bohemian Chic look has been popular among young women at music festivals for several years now. Older women can also get the look by using layers, mixing textures, embroideries and patterns, and choosing unique and colorful jewelry and bags. Here are some options that may strike your fancy.

Velvets, wool, and laces can be mixed and matched to create a bohemian look. Simply put, achieving a bohemian style can be as simple as mixing the unexpected – like a striped pattern with a floral pattern, for example.

Using fashion and style in our 60s is a way of challenging our invisibility. Being creative and not fitting into a mold can make us stand out and express the way we feel from the inside out.

Seasonal Boho Styling Tips

Bohemian fashion works beautifully all year long. With just a few adjustments, you can carry your artistic style through every season. Here’s how to adapt your boho wardrobe with the weather:

Spring/Summer Boho Style

Warm months are ideal for lightweight, breezy fabrics and flowing silhouettes. Think cotton or gauze maxi dresses in floral or ethnic prints, sleeveless embroidered tunics, and wide-leg linen pants. Accessorize with straw hats, woven tote bags, and simple leather sandals or espadrilles. This is the season for layering with light kimonos or oversized scarves in airy fabrics. Don’t forget touches like wooden jewelry or beaded necklaces for a natural, relaxed vibe.

Fall/Winter Boho Style

As the temperatures drop, boho fashion shifts into cozy textures and rich, earthy tones. Reach for velvet jackets, wool ruanas, or chunky knit cardigans over your dresses or tunics. Dark floral prints, paisley scarves, and corduroy skirts blend warmth with style. Suede boots, wide-brim felt hats, and layered jewelry in gold or bronze tones add depth and personality. Mix and match textures, lace, knits, and faux fur all work together to create a grounded, creative winter look.

Boho styling is flexible and expressive, let the seasons inspire how you wear it, but always make it your own.

Thank you for this article. I’m so over being expected to dress age appropriate and get a wash and wear perm now that I’m 60. Bohemian is a way of life, not just a fashion trend and many of us in our sixties have been rockin’ the look since we were tender birdlings. I plan to keep on keepin’ on.
